While some high-end restomod builds go big on the modern touches, the end result isn’t always ideal. Sure, it can be cool to add an array of carbon fiber body pieces and a fully bespoke cabin, but at the end of the day, all of that classic appeal may be left behind. This 1968 Chevy Camaro takes a different approach, keeping much of the factory styling and feel intact, but with a plethora of upgrades added along the way to give it the performance and refinement of a modern performance vehicle. Now, we’re taking a closer look with the following in-depth feature video.
Once again coming to us from the folks at AutotopiaLA, this particular ’68 Chevy Camaro is on offer from RestoMods as their latest giveaway car. Starting under the hood, the Camaro is equipped with the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4, the same powerplant cradled by the sixth-generation Camaro ZL1, doling out upwards of 650 horsepower. Paired with a Tremec Magnum six-speed manual transmission, this tried-and-true combo should make for a fantastic experience from the driver’s seat.
Despite its classic 1968 styling, the car a wealth of modern upgrades under the skin, starting with an Art Morrison front subframe with Corvette suspension components and a RideTech four-link coilover system in the rear, enhancing the handling and overall drivability by a considerable margin, not to mention providing the right complement to all that supercharged firepower under the hood.
Meanwhile, the exterior presents black paint matched with white racing stripes, as well as LED lighting. In the corners, you’ll find two-piece forged wheels over a set of Wilwood disc brakes. The cabin is bathed in houndstooth upholstery by TMI that combines a vintage vibe with modern comfort.
Later in the video, this restomod 1968 Chevy Camaro hits the streets for a test drive, and as expected, the crew doesn’t hold back, lighting up the rear rubber and giving us an earful of that supercharged LT4 at full song. Hit play to see and hear it for yourself:
