GM Not Resurrecting Chevy Bel Air, Don’t Believe The Rumors

Over the past few months, GM Authority has received a flood of emails and questions (drop us a line!) about whether General Motors is planning to bring back the iconic Chevy Bel Air for the 2025 or 2026 model years. While the idea sounds quite enticing, let’s just cut to the chase – it’s not happening.

The recent rumors seem to be the result of a series of new renderings posted online, which have fueled speculation among fans and media outlets alike. While these designs may be exactly what fans want to hear, GM and Chevrolet have yet to announce anything related to a Chevy Bel Air revival. What’s more GM Authority sources indicate that no such model is in the pipeline.

In fact, with the imminent retirement of the ninth-generation Chevy Malibu, Chevrolet will very soon no longer offer any sedans in the U.S. market. While this could change in the future, any potential sedan from Chevy will not bear the Bel Air nameplate.

And that’s likely very sad news for any fans who may have been caught up in the rumored Chevy Bel Air revival. The Bel Air debuted in 1950 and quickly became a symbol of American car culture, renowned for its stylish design that helped to define Americana of the 1950s and 1960s. Perhaps most iconic was the 1957 Bel Air, easily recognized by its sleek tail fins, which remains a favorite among collectors today.

Chevy discontinued the Bel Air in the U.S. in 1975 as consumer preferences shifted and new regulations changed the landscape of American automobiles. Despite various attempts to modernize the sedan segment, the Bel Air nameplate has remained a relic of a bygone era.

Given the nostalgic appeal of the Bel Air and the current trend among automakers of reviving classic models (the Ford Bronco certainly comes to mind), it’s no surprise that fans are eager to see a Bel Air resurrection. The recent “Pontiac Is Back” charade is further evidence of just how eager fans are to latch on to the hope that their favorite brand or model is set for an impending resurrection. Unfortunately, GM’s continuing focus on EVs and SUVs makes a large sedan revival seem even less likely in any sort of immediate future.

So, while it’s always fun to speculate, fans should temper their expectations: the Chevy Bel Air isn’t making a comeback anytime soon.

  1. Oh the web is chocked full of all sorts of Chevy concept crap. None of it is true.

Anyone believing these or political stories needs to be sent to common sense school.

What is interesting is Chevy will continue the Camaro in Racing branded as a Chevrolet not a Camaro for 2025.

Not sure what their future plans are but we are not sure what NASCAR may do with the rules either.

    1. NASCAR can always do what they usually do, & rewrite the rules to suit their desired outcome.

  2. Chevy has been doing a terrible job resurrecting past iconic name plates. Just leave them alone to rest in peace.

  3. We all know a “Bel Air” under current leadership would be an imported 4cyl CUV with a nametag.

    So thankful this isn’t happening!

  5. How great it would be if true. But GM would mess it up anyway. This story has been around since I was kid. I’m 75! There was a story that the original owner of Mr. Gasket, had the molds and was secretly remaking 1957 Belair’s. If he did, where the Hell are they? One can buy repopped bodies from a couple places now. But the price is out of this world! The days of finding a needle in the hay stack, are long gone. I’ll keep my 1969 Chevelle SS, I bought new just before my Uncle gave me a free vacation.

  9. Kind of curious about why 2025 Malibu is still showing on Chevy’s site for build and buy? I think they have reconsidered the fate of Malibu.
