The No. 48 NASCAR Chevy Camaro SS team of Parker Kligerman was penalized following the Xfinity Series race at Michigan on August 17th, 2024. The penalty was for an illegally modified rear spoiler discovered on the Camaro race car in postrace inspection on Saturday.
According to the penalty report from NASCAR.com, Kligerman’s race car was found to be in violation of 14.4.10.A of the NASCAR Rule Book, which refers to modifications to the rear spoiler. Stated in section 10.5.2.2.A&B of the Rule Book, L1-level penalties include team-sourced parts not meeting the NASCAR Rule Book, failure to meet minimum weight post-race, or failure to submit and receive approval of parts.
As a result, Kligerman and the No. 48 NASCAR Chevy team were docked 20 points in the drivers’ championship and owners’ championships. Patrick Donahue, crew chief for Kligerman’s team, was fined $25,000. NASCAR has not disclosed the issues with the spoiler that led to the penalty as of this writing. Additionally, Kligerman’s team was the only one to get penalized after the weekend’s races at Michigan.
Kligerman was scored 36 points above the cutline for the Xfinity Series Playoffs after Michigan. However, the penalty leaves him just 16 points ahead of the final slot with five races left in the regular 2024 season. As a reminder, only 12 Xfinity Series regulars will get the opportunity to compete for the 2024 title, following an elimination-style system until just four drivers remain heading into the season’s final race.
Justin Allgaier, the driver of the No. 7 NASCAR Chevy Camaro, was scored the winner after Saturday’s race ended under caution due to a multi-car wreck on the final lap. Kligerman crossed the line in 11th.
The next Xfinity Series race will be at Daytona, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday, August 23rd.

“NO SPOILER IS ILLEGAL!” 😉
NASCAR has ruined stock car racing. People need to wake up and stop supporting them until they get back to real racing.
Your local short track has “real” racing. The same 3 or 4 guys win by laps every week. I’ll keep NASCAR as is.
