Range Rover Electric Revealed As Cadillac Escalade IQ Rival: Photos

Land Rover has provided the first official look at the Range Rover Electric, a new battery-driven variant of the popular luxury SUV. The upcoming all-electric SUV was shown undergoing testing on the icy expanses of Sweden’s frozen lakes in the Arctic Circle. When it launches, the new Range Rover Electric will rival the Cadillac Escalade IQ.

Unlike Cadillac, which opted for distinct styling differences between the all-electric Escalade IQ and the traditional ICE-based Escalade model, the Range Rover Electric shows essentially the same design as the ICE-based / hybrid Range Rover. However, underneath the familiar face, the battery-driven SUV features a new in-house all-electric propulsion system that has been tested under some of the most challenging conditions in the world, from frigid Arctic temperatures to the scorching heat of the Middle East deserts.

One of the standout features of this upcoming model is a new traction control system. Unlike traditional systems that rely heavily on the ABS unit, this vehicle’s system manages wheel slip directly at each electric drive control unit. This reduces the torque reaction time at each wheel from around 100 milliseconds to as little as one millisecond, allowing for greater control and responsiveness on icy and low-grip surfaces. Additionally, the software developed in-house by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) fine-tunes the Electric Drive Unit (EDU) speed, allowing for minimal ABS intervention and maximizing traction across all terrain types.

JLR has yet to provide an official timeline for the release of the new all-electric Range Rover, but judging by the latest official photos, the automaker’s upcoming SUV looks more or less production-ready right now. Meanwhile, the Cadillac Escalade IQ is set for release later in 2024 for the 2025 model year.
