The Bow Tie was an unstoppable force at Daytona last weekend, with NASCAR Chevy teams sweeping all three of the 2024 season-opening races at The World Center for Racing for the first time since 2018. Victories in the Truck Series, Xfinity Series and, of course, the Daytona 500 put Chevy on top of the scoring pylon when it mattered most, making it the only manufacturer to accomplish the feat more than once.
William Byron, driver of the No. 24 NASCAR Chevy Camaro ZL1, outdueled his teammate, Alex Bowman in the No. 48 Camaro, to win the Daytona 500 this year, outrunning not one but two massive wrecks in the process. Byron’s dramatic victory marked Chevy’s 26th Daytona 500 win, the most of any manufacturer. For comparison, Ford only has 17.
Not to be outdone, Austin Hill brought the heavily damaged No. 21 Camaro SS to the win in the Xfinity Series at Daytona. The race car wasn’t pretty when the race was through, thanks to an early wreck, a flat tire, blown-out fender and issues on Pit Road. No matter, though, as Hill piloted the taped-up No. 21 NASCAR Chevy ahead of the pack, avoiding further incident on his way to the win.
Finally, Nick Sanchez scored the first win of his Truck Series career at Daytona. He, too, recovered from a crash early on, but thankfully, his No. 2 Chevy Silverado RST wasn’t damaged enough to hurt its speed. He was leading at the time of caution on the second of two attempts at Overtime, earning him the win as the field crashed behind him.
“[Byron’s] victory added to an already special weekend for Chevrolet at Daytona,” said Scott Bell, vice president, Global Chevrolet, in a statement. “We are honored to have Nick Sanchez, Austin Hill and William Byron add their names to an elite list of drivers who have taken Chevrolet to 102 NASCAR wins at Daytona International Speedway.”
