A problem has been identified by GM that may cause the heated seat switch indicator lights to remain dark and apparently inoperative on certain 2023 GMC Sierra and 2024 GMC Sierra pickups, while the front heated seats are actually functional.
No replacement parts are currently available to correct the problem, though these are under development and a customer satisfaction program will probably be available soon.
When the heated seat switch is used to turn on the front heated seat function, the indicator lights on the switch remain dark on affected GMC Sierra trucks, GM TechLink revealed in a recent post. Out of the three indicator lights on the switch, one, two or all of them may fail to light up when the heated seats are switched on and heating.
While the failure of the lights to illuminate may make it look like the heated seats themselves are non-functional, this appearance is false. The switches are actually working normally, as are the seat heating elements, and it is only the indicator lights that are inoperative.
Dealer service personnel encountering the issue are instructed by GM to let GMC Sierra owners know the heated seat function is still working properly. The heated seats are automatically in a switched-off condition when the truck is first started, but pressing the switch repeatedly will cycle through the normal high, medium, low, and off settings for the front heated seats.
The problem is believed to originate with a defect or glitch in the Front HVAC User Interface Control on affected GMC Sierra units. At this point, replacement of the Interface Control with a new component is ineffective because the new part will have the same problem.
A replacement Front HVAC User Interface Control is currently under development that, when installed, will enable the indicator lights on affected GMC Sierra units to light up normally. Notably, some 2023 to 2024 Chevy Silverado trucks are also affected.
Once a correctly functioning replacement Interface Control component is developed and in production, it is expected GM will publish a service bulletin for resolution of the problem.
