GMC was ranked average in terms of consumer satisfaction in the recent 2022-2023 America Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) study.
With a score of 79 out of a possible 100 points, Big Red was ranked seventh overall, and saw a four-percent increase in its score as compared to the 2022 calendar year. Toyota led the pack with a score of 84 points and a subsequent percentage change of 5 percent, while Chrysler had the worst score of 71 points and a drop from 2022 ratings of one percent.
It’s worth noting that all three of General Motors’ mass-market brands – including Chevy, GMC, and Buick – were all given the same score.
There were several key takeaways from this study, including:
- Toyota occupies the top ACSI slot among mass-market cars, while Lexus ties Tesla for the luxury lead
- High satisfaction for Tesla and Lexus reflects an evolving trend of younger customers appreciating luxury vehicle technology
- The satisfaction gap between mass-market and luxury vehicles is greatest for customers age 26 to 41
As reference, the 2022-2023 ACSI Automobile Study is based on interviews with 8,941 customers, chosen at random and contacted via email between July 2022 and June 2023. Contacted consumers were asked to evaluate their recent experiences with automobile brands manufactured by the largest companies in terms of market share, plus an aggregate category consisting of all other – and thus smaller – auto nameplates.
Interestingly, in 2023 J.D. Power U.S. Customer Satisfaction (CSI) study, Big Red received a score of 853 out of 1,000 points in the Mass Market Brand segment, which was enough to make GMC the seventh-highest ranked brand, the same ranking as the ACSI study. Notably, Buick was positioned much higher than either the Bow Tie brand or Big Red, while Chrysler was also ranked last overall with a CSI score of 803.

GM is the best quality Detroit brand. Convinced some buyers approach purchase with an unconscious “Toyota is the best & everyone says so,” bias much like I have a similar GM & VW bias except know I’m in the minority.
Apples and oranges comparison. Toyota full sized pickups have such a small piece of the market compared to real full sized pickups that it’s not a fair comparison to GMC. Plus, as far as I know Toyota doesn’t build 3/4 and 1 ton trucks.
GMC Direct Support to Consumers in the MyGMC App and Updates on Expected Accessories from Hummer EV Concierge Customer Support is extremely poor. They Jammed OnStar down everyones throat but no one at OnStar has answers to connectivity issues. When they tell you that they will escalate your problem and a response will come in 3-5 days, I don’t recommend you hold your breath. They do not follow-up. I still can’t connect MyGMC to the Alexa App! That’s why GMC isn’t even close to #1 in Customer Satisfaction.
With the lofty demands coming from the UAW, they should be in the top spot. If you’re payed better and have better benefits than the competitors in spots 1-6… start working like it.
