2023 GMC Canyon Gets New Solar Flare Metallic Color: First Look

The 2023 GMC Canyon adds four new exterior colors to its palette: Deep Bronze Metallic, Volcanic Red Tintcoat, Sterling Metallic, and Solar Flare Metallic. Here’s our first look at the new Yellow hue.

Assigned RPO code GCP and touch-up paint code WA-628G, Solar Flare Metallic is one of eight exterior colors offered on the next-generation midsize pickup truck, which include:

  • Summit White
  • Onyx Black
  • Desert Sand Metallic
  • Dynamic Blue Metallic
  • Sterling Metallic (new for 2023)
  • Solar Flare Metallic (new for 2023)
  • Deep Bronze Metallic (new for 2023)
  • Volcanic Red Tintcoat (new for 2023)

The Solar Flare Metallic color is an extra-cost option priced at $495 that is not available on the Denali trim level. It can be combined with all available interior colorways except Jet Black/Teak, which is exclusive to the Denali trim.

For reference, here are the four available interior colorways offered on the 2023 Canyon:

  • Jet Black (Elevation)
  • Jet Black/Timber (AT4)
  • Obsidian Rush (AT4X)
  • Jet Black/Teak (Denali)

In August, GM unveiled the all-new 2023 GMC Canyon as the fresh, third generation of the midsize pickup. Highlights include the first-ever 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X as the range-topper of the off-road lineup, along with revised exterior styling, an overhauled cabin, a new powertrain, and a range of tech goodies. The new truck is available in four trim levels: ElevationDenaliAT4, and the aforementioned AT4X, offering an exclusive Edition 1 package, which sold out in just 10 minutes. All trims except the AT4X feature a factory two-inch suspension lift, enabling ground clearance of up to 9.6 inches, while a dedicated off-road performance display page in the infotainment system is standard.

The 2023 GMC Canyon also gets a new tailgate-mounted storage compartment, plus new wheel designs up to 22 inches is size and new CoreTec seat material. Plus, it keeps the Denali Black Edition package.

The 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X features an extra one-inch lift over the rest of the line for a total of three inches, as well as standard 33-inch MT tires, Multimatic DSSV dampers, front and rear lockers, underbody skid plates, and an exclusive Baja drive mode for high-speed driving on the rough stuff. Inside, the Canyon AT4X includes an Obsidian Rush colorway with Ceramic White accents. The Edition 1 package mentioned earlier aims to make the new off-road-ready AT4X trim level even more appealing with a variety of exclusive off-road parts and components.

The 2023 GMC Canyon AT4 gets an optional Off-Road Lift Package to match the three-inch lift of the Canyon AT4X.

Under the hood, the 2023 GMC Canyon is equipped as standard with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine in the High Output tune rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. It is mated to an updated version of the GM eight-speed automatic that addresses many of the transmission’s shortcomings. The midsize pickup truck rides on an updated version of the same GMT 31XX platform, internally known by GM as 31XX-2.

Production of the 2023 GMC Canyon started on January 24th at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri, while the new AT4X trim started rolling off the line in mid-May. The online configurator tool is live for the 2023 Canyon.

A 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition has just been revealed and will include a number of important upgrades over the Canyon AT4X.

      • It is the same as the Nitro Yellow on the Blazer. Raiti's Rides did a review of the yellow Colorado on YouTube about a month ago...the review was done in the sunlight and made the yellow look better than the picture above. That being said, I am not a huge fan...looks like a darker mustard. Just give us yellow back.

  • Are these constant color changing schemes ( a red to a different shade of red, a yellow to a different shade of yellow, a brown to a different shade of brown, a blue to a different shade of blue) at the behest of gm or the paint manufacturers? GM because designers don't have anything better to do or paint factories so they can sell more paint formulas and supplies to body shops? Or just to cater to a fickle buyer? I'm with Henry Ford... You can get any color you want on your Model T as long as it's black. Yet I won't buy a black vehicle. Looks great when it's clean but too hard to keep it that way. At my age I'm trying to work smarter not harder.

  • I have no idea why GMC is advertising the canyon when they cannot deliver them. I ordered mine in late February and now it’s July and it has not even been built yet Need to roll at the top at GMC by the time I get my Canyon it’s going to be in the 2024 model. There are zero at a dealership what is going on heads need to roll at the top. And now the factory shut down for two weeks and now the factory is closed for two weeks because they can’t get computer chips. Very poor planning.

    • Where do you live? What trim did you order? Any other special options? These are sitting on dealer lots, where i live. Same with Colorado's.

      • I saw three Canon Elevation trucks at my local GMC dealer yesterday...white, red, and black. The only bummer was they were all 2wd. I am potentially looking for one in a couple of months, but want 4wd and maybe in AT4 trim.

  • Why is this an article now?
All of these colors have been known for what, the last 10-12 months?

  • The Chevrolet dealer has a Colorado in this same color. It's a Tral Boss model and really looks good. The color is rather loud though :)

  • GM has always had a problem with picking paint colors for their cars and trucks, while other car makers come up with some beautiful colors.. whoever at GM is picking paint colors should be replaced, because there are in a rut , just lousy choices. every time I look to get a new vehicle its the same ol same ol. I think I'll be getting the new Buick Envista I like how it looks thats GM ever gets on the ball . My neighbor just got his new Chevy Colorado (2023) that he ordered seven months ago, I'm suprised he even accepted it with the 2024's out. Both of us are loyal to GM, but that may be changing!!!!

  • I got my new truck just a few weeks ago. .I ordered the Solar Flare and I love it. Go ahead and keep getting the same boring black, white, greys if you want to be plain. I have had all that.. Let it Rip and go bold. You wont be disappointed either way. Its the best looking truck on the road IMO.
