2023 GMC Canyon AT4: The Accessible Off-Road Truck

The 2023 GMC Canyon made its official debut this past week, arriving with four available trim levels: Elevation, AT4, Denali and the extreme off-road AT4X. Today, we’re going to turn the spotlight on the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4, which bridges the gap from the standard Elevation to the go-anywhere AT4X with some mild off-road-focused equipment and cosmetic components.

All 2023 GMC Canyon models in the Elevation, AT4 and Denali will come standard with an off-road suspension package featuring an ultra-wide track and a two-inch factory lift. This setup has resulted in an impressive standard ground clearance of 9.6 inches, as well as improved approach, departure and breakover angles. The AT4 expands on the off-road nature of the nameplate with 18-inch off-road wheels and tires, a faux front skid plate, red-painted tow hooks, gloss black exterior trim and red-accented AT4 exterior and interior badging.

As we reported previously, all 2023 GMC Canyon models come standard with GM’s turbocharged 2.7L L3B engine in the High Output tune, which is rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Four-wheel-drive is an optional extra on the base Elevation trim level, however, the AT4, along with the AT4X and Denali trim levels, come with standard 4WD. The updated GM eight-speed automatic serves as the sole transmission option.

Inside, the Canyon AT4 features two-tone leather upholstery with stitched AT4 branding, faux carbon fiber trim and hard AT4 dashboard badging. An eight-inch driver information display relays important info to the driver, while an 11.3-inch infotainment display sits front and center.

The 2023 GMC Canyon is set to enter production on January 25th in the Elevation, AT4 and Denali trim levels, with production of the extreme AT4X trim set to commence in the spring of 2023. Assembly will take place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri – the same plant where the current second-gen Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon pickups are built. A complete pricing breakdown will be released closer to the official on-sale date.

    1. That interior looks black on the seats but its not. Its actually has tones of tan you see on the dash and door. Go look it at GMC website or TFL review and it shows it very well.
