After being in the red for 18 consecutive months, Chevrolet Korea sales rose in a healthy way in September. The Bow Tie brand managed to reverse its profoundly negative performance in the South Korean market with a slight albeit significant uptick last month, which somewhat alleviates the massive volume loss experienced by the brand in the Asian country due to the difficulties caused by COVID-19 pandemic and the continuing shortage of semiconductors.
The improvement in Chevrolet Korea sales was led by incremental sales of the Chevy Bolt EUV and Bolt EV which together added a remarkable 800 units to the bottom line, on a year-over-year bassi. In fact, the new Bolt EUV posted its best monthly performance to date in South Korea, ranking as the brand’s third best-selling model in the country. Beyond that, increases posted by the Chevy Malibu and Trax also helped achieve growth during the month.
Meanwhile, sales of the Chevy Trailblazer and Chevy Spark continued to decline, posting notable double-digit drops in September. However, the Trailblazer subcompact crossover regained its position as the brand’s best-seller in the South Korean market, having lost it in August to the Spark.
We opine that, had GM been able to build more units of the Trailblazer and Spark, and not have had to send them to North America, Chevy Korea sales would have been even higher still.
At a time of year when luxury car ATP usually rises.
Sales decreased 5.6 percent to 16,670 units during the first ten months of 2024.
Specifically critical minerals supply chain development.
Scheduled for a Spring 2025 launch.
