It’s no secret that automotive production has been hit hard by supply chain issues, with some customers waiting a very long time indeed to park their new ride in their driveway. Now, we want to know – how long have you been waiting for your GM vehicle?
Obviously, automotive production is an extremely complex process, with thousands of individual parts required to make just one vehicle. All of those parts must arrive at the production facility on time, with GM sourcing the parts with the intention of keeping purchase costs as low as possible. Once the vehicle is produced, it must then be shipped to dealers.
Naturally, this process is vulnerable to any number of complications. For example, GM may be faced with rising purchase costs amid inflation, as well as supply constraints that not only raise part pricing, but also delay the arrival of parts outright. These part constraints could also result in GM being unable to build all configurations of its vehicles. Shipment of completed vehicles may also run into complications due to rising costs and labor shortages, among other problems.
Indeed, the process it takes to build a vehicle and get it out to customers isn’t always a smooth one, which obviously leads to delays. This was made particularly apparent by the widespread disruptions experienced in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, GM is still figuring out ways to build vehicles without all the necessary components – for example, by placing constraints on certain features to be retrofitted at a later date, such as heated seats.
So then, we want to know – how long have you been waiting for your GM vehicle? It’s important to time the wait for your vehicle from when the order was actually placed, rather than when a reservation was made or when you “raised your hand” for the vehicle. For example, a customer who just reserved a 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 will have to wait at least a year, which wouldn’t count in this particular poll.

GM = Total Incompetence……how long are they going to blame their inability to build vehicles on the supply chain, Covid and the Ukraine war…..time to get your act together before customers like me just walk away and buy from someone else ….I already did…..been waiting to order a 2023 Buick Envision ,complete with all parts working) for almost a year….gave up and bought a Volvo
I bought a Lexus GX 460 with all the chips and got a discount. I originally wanted a Yukon but with no chips and a forced subscription to OnStar I went to the Lexus
Been waiting 13-1/2 months for a Yukon xl ultimate with 3.0 diesel
I waited 7 months when they called and said it would be at least another 6 months. I cancelled. If every dealer is selling at $20k over msrp..why sell me what I ordered at msrp? Greed not supply shortage.
Waiting for nine months now for my 2022 Tahoe Premium. First told that I couldn’t get the color i wanted, second, the larger motor was not available along with some of the speed control perks, then the delay turned this order to a 2023 model (price increase) and It was almost ready, but the “insulation under the hood” was not in stock and then they were waiting on the motors for the electric windows. And…oh yeah! “there are not enough train engineers to bring production to the east”.
I know just as soon as I jump ship, that rascal will show up and someone else will get something I’ve waited so long to receive. I’ll give it a few more weeks.
Ordered a Denali Ultimat last January, dealer called me in September and told me that I would have to order a 2023 and start this process over again. NOT. Will buy something else that’s not GM. Tired of their bull.
J’attend depuis septembre 2021 mon Bolt euv commence à trouver ça long
Bien hâte de l’avoir suppose l’avoir février 2022. Mais pas capable d’avoir une date pour une allocation de constrution
Maybe they can pull parts from some of the vehicles they are sending to China for your vehicle!
Have been waiting since March 2022 for a Chevy Silverado 1500 LT TrailBoss Refresh in Dark Ash Metallic, LT Premium Package, Dark Essentials and Off Road Assist Steps. Order still hasnt been picked up by GM and assigned a build date yet. Was told by dealer their not sure if this truck will ever be built because of heavy constraint on the production of the LT TrailBoss
What “Event Code” is your Trailboss sitting at? Is it at 3000 or higher? If it’s under 3000, it’s not getting built…..
Not sure. Dealer didnt give me that info. All i was told was if they removed the LT premium package it would have already been built due to the constraints on packages/options that are included in the LT Premium package.
GMC Sierra 1500 slt Òrdered in October of 2021. Nor built till January 2022. Delivered in May 2022 minus 3 chips.no word yet from GMC or Dealer when they will be delivered. Very frustrated !
Who do I call or email for updates ?? New trucks arriving with all chips now. They have them and my money.
GMs customer service for this sort of thing is 800-462-8782. I called then when my dealer ran out of information and they were very professional and helpful. Unfortunately, no one has all of the information available. They may not know everything from parts or manufacturing but have some access and field a ton of questions so they might know something. Indeed, it’s very frustrating.
Also, your dealer can escalate to their regional General Manager (for the brand) and they have more stroke in getting answers. My truck was made a couple of weeks ago and the dealer has been great about tracking and explaining what the various stages mean – unfortunately again, sometimes they see ambiguous words like “on hold” that can mean 20 different things. A good dealer and puzzle some of this together from past experience and from a track record of asking questions and being a nuisance. Good luck with the chip situation!
Call your local GMC dealer Service Department, give them the VIN and ask them if there are any chips available for it. GM started sending out letters to customers on August 1st.
New up date : call to service center put me to a chat talk with Michele who May or may not be a robot ?? After answering same questions over 3 different chats, she/it told me my vehicle was not on list for missing chips and Theresa’s not ET for delivery at all. I asked the plan and got no response. Another question about USB drives with music I had to down load because of no CD PLAYER I was told it was probable an incomparably issue and they could not provide an answer or suggestion for my pronlem. The al day Chat talk was a waste of time. Dealers tell me they will notify me when chips are available if ever. My mistake for thinking this would be resolved in several months. Total incompentence
It’s interesting that there is no chip shortage for EVs!
The “chip shortage” is a FRAUD! They want you to buy a EV with a 250 mile driving
range, which is a 1/2 tank of gas!
I ordered a 2023 Tahoe and a 2023 Traverse within the month that the new model year orders opened up. Both came in within 8 weeks and neither had any component holds or deletions.
I ordered a 2023 Traverse Premier. It was built within 2 months but has been sitting in a parking lot now for a month and a half waiting on transport. GM’s excuse, a “congestion issue” where the Traverse is at. Evidently it’s PARKED IN and they CAN’T GET TO IT? Whatever, it’s pathetic, and they will not let the dealer come and get it, which is also mind boggling. You’d think that if they’re BEHIND in getting vehicles shipped out, they’d ENCOURAGE dealers to come and get them, but NOOOO. Well I’ve about had it. Just about ready to shop else where. My patience has worn very thin. In fact if it shows up missing features, I’ll refuse it. I have a 2022 Silverado 2500HD LTZ that I’m planning on trading in. I got an email from GM way back in April or May that said, GOOD NEWS, we have the chips for your missing features and will be contacting you “SOON” to have them installed” Oh really? Well it’s NOVEMBER, and I haven’t seen SQUAT for MISSING CHIPS. I’m just waiting for the first CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT against GM to SUE them over these missing chips. We PAID FULL PRICE for these features and DON’T HAVE THEM. We were given a little PITANCE of money when we picked them up for the missing features and that’s it. We STILL don’t have them. I think GM is a dumpster fire right now, and I will not order another new vehicle from them. I will go else where. If GM wants my business back, they better straighten out, and PROVE that they can DELIVER.
That’s really maddening, Jake. Your vehicles are well over $100,000 together and you’re not happy at all with the service or communication. My order is still within the time frame the dealer told me to expect. It’s been made, dealer has the build sheet and VIN, nothing appears to be missing but window sticker will reveal everything. I received my first e-mail from GM last week telling me the exciting news that it’s been made. I knew this a month ago. Hopefully things loosen up and you get your vehicle soon. And also hopefully – we’re pleased with the product if not the service.
I too ordered a 23 traverse premier redline 6/29/22. Was told a couple of weeks ago ETA was a couple of weeks ago. That came and went followed up with it’s sitting in Charlotte, Michigan, and there are a lot of other traverses that are stuck there too. My lease ends December 1st and I was advised to start a month to month lease with my prior dealer. This is ridiculous and making me not want to go through GM on my next vehicle.
I am in the same boat. I ordered a 2023 Traverse RS back in July. My Car was built in October and had a ship date of mid November however, it’s still sitting in Charlotte Michigan – same lot as yours Caitlin and no one has any answers. It’s maddening they can’t get them out to ship, this delay does not make sense. Does anyone else have any other suggestions on how to contact someone higher up in GM?
I call GM (need the VIN) and inquire plus file complaint about every three weeks. They don’t have information at their fingertips and have to call Order Fulfillment to get the lowdown. The CSR folks are pleasant and trained to be polite without giving any information to customers. They really don’t know much other than what they’re told and they aren’t told much. The smart ones who have fielded a number of similar calls can connect the dots and understand the system better but they still don’t have much information.
It would be nice to talk to someone in Order Fulfillment but I suspect they will have information but not be able to take action. I may try to go higher in the system.
BEEN WAITNG SENCE MARCH OF 2022 FOR THE YUCON THAT WAS ORDERD, 2- PRICE INCREASES ALREADY, STILL DONT NO WHEN THE THING WILL BE BUILT, I CONTACT DEALER MONTHLY, SAME OLD STORY DONT NO WHEN IT WILL BE BUILT.
Call your dealer and get the Event Code for your order. If it hasn’t reached Status 3000 by now, it’s not getting built…..
Good point. Dealers do have this information and mine is really helpful. Mine is sitting at 4300 which (according to the dealer) means it’s built and pretty far along in the logistics path. It’s “on hold” though and they don’t know exactly what that means but suspect it might be because of the commitment to deliver all built 2022s before any 2023s are delivered.
This is crazy isn’t it? My 2023 Yukon was produced and has now been sitting for 8 weeks for transportation. I live 3 hours away from where it is sitting and even offered to go pick it up and take it to the dealer. lol At this point, I am realizing it could go on for months and will start looking for something else. It’s funny that a Cadillac Dealer can get vehicles in to sell for $15000 above MSRP but no one else can get anything in. I guess if we all stopped ordering they would figure something out. (: Good luck!
I ordered A 2021 Chevy express extended van in on April 29 2021 ! After calling GM several times ,( basically no answers, useless), all they cold tell me was the order has been accepted. I called last week 10 – 19 2022 ,and was told it has been “produced” and is waiting on shipment, or transportation I forget which. I asked if it meant it was manufactured ? All she could tell me was that it was produced. I asked if I could pick it up. She told me Im not the first person to ask that , and no, I couldn’t. Going on 19 months now ! Not happy !
Yep Larry. Sounds like the prediction that the Authority gave a couple of months ago is true. They said scheduled production for the ’23 Trail Boss will be only 12% of the total for the year. I found a “In Transit” Boss that had all my options from a local dealer. This was a couple of months ago. Dealer said 1st of Nov. Not holding my breath.
I ordered a 2021 Colorado March 1, 2021, did not have vehicle by July 1, 2021. Dealer could not tell me if I would get it at all. Just by luck he had Z71 on the lot so I took it, I had ordered an LT.
When it comes to anything Corvette, GM has failed. I have cash in hand for the last 3 years for a new Z06 but still can’t get one due to piss poor organizational skill to deliver a product. Additional sitting on 3 week to get a repair part on current corvette. Keep driving faithful customer into the seat of another….. Porsche 911 looking better everyday.
I feel your pain. Similar situation waiting on a dealer list for the Z06 that never seems to come. With the recession coming on strong next year, a Porsche GT3 will be easier to get and frankly once their dealer markup drops will be the close to the price as the Z06 outfitted for the track. At least Porsche seems to still know how to make cars in volume…..
Been Waiting 6 months for a corvette in Canada and dealers are telling me it could be another two years.
We’re telling our customers want on our waiting list that we’re probably looking at a minimum 18-24 months before they could order a Stingray…..Z06s wait times are a lot longer.
How about my new 2022 Buick Envision with only 8000 kms sitting in a dealers garage for 4 months and counting waiting for a module, and still no delivery date.
I ordered a 2022 Corvette with a dealership in June 2021. The order was sent to GM in November and I received an order number. I never heard from the dealership so in May I called the Corvette Concierge and was told my order was canceled and I would have to submit a new order for the 2023 model. I went to see my salesman and he said due to constraints his dealership is not submitting any Corvette orders. He refused to give me any time table. I still have not heard from the dealership or my salesman. At this point it looks like, if I am lucky, I may get a 2024 model. Very frustrating. All I want is some communication, honesty and transparency. This dealership has provided none. I will never use them again.
Communication is a two-way street. You’re always free to contact the dealer to get the information and answers you are looking for….
Had waited almost one year with NO IDEA of build or delivery date so i canceled my order..In the meantime i get notice from GM Card that my earnings will be no good in which i then contacted them telling them it is not my fault that you GM cannot build the vehicle i want..BTW, i was told by GM card that i have at least another year before my earnings will expire. Nothing like telling you a year in advance to maybe go out and buy something else..Sorry way to run a company and business in my book. Should have never even built or taken orders on Corvette unless the company can supply the goods…
I was told in April my Silverado was built waiting on parts. In June the truck was invoiced and I got a copy of the window sticker. I was told in June that since it was invoiced it was complete and ready to be shipped. I was told in July and in August it was still pending transport. Then in September I was told it was waiting on semiconductors. It is now late October and still no idea when i will get my truck. GM needs to get their act together and give their customers better information.
Gary, dealers have been asking for better information and transparency as well. It’s been frustrating for all of us….
Maybe GM should charter some Atlas 747’s and go get the chips and parts themselves? This maybe a dumb idea but sometimes if something doesn’t come to you, you have to go and get it yourself.
That sounds all good and well, but if the chips are being made in countries where the government only allows 30% of it’s workers in the manufacturing plants, it doesn’t take long to see what some of the problems are.
If Amazon can track my $5 order and keep me informed every step of the way, why can’t GM do the same for a $40k order?
Because Amazon is Amazon, and General Motors is General Motors.
still waiting 16 months for my dealer to let me know I can order an Express van ….. in the mean time, I did order a 2023 Traverse 3 months ago. Dealer just informed me it has been built, but can’t tell me when it will be shipped. Probably will be my last GM purchase after 50 yrs of buying new GM vehicles. Seems they could care less what the buyers actually want to buy. (Interesting… my local dealer has had several $80K new 2022 Silverados on the lot)
I ordered my 2023 silverado ltz z71 aug 11. My code is 3000. Does anyone have a guess when I’ll get it?
My 2023 Traverse arrived at Dave Smith motors in ID, Nov 29. I ordered it mid July 22. If you want to order a Chev and pay cash, call my salesman, Russ Hersrud 208-786-6145 and tell him you want the John Dresser deal.
He will sell for MSRP and no dealer fees or registration fees. I wrote my check for the msrp, less $1000 Nov incentives and less $1000 Costco member rebate (till Jan 3 ) .
(Beware of GM tricks…. you won’t know what rebates you will get till the vehicle is on the dealer’s lot … whatever rebates are in play for that month, no matter when that is! And tough luck for you if Chev raises the price while you wait 6+ months for delivery )
My purchase agreement was I could cancel my order (get my deposit back) if the dealer passed on any price increases or did not honor any rebates offered in the months while I am waiting. Of course, both happened and the dealer was more than willing to cancel my order. (Next time…maybe I need to make them give me a deposit to guarantee they will honor the terms :- ) but I don’t think there will be a next time.
I ordered a 2022 refreshed LT Trail Boss in Dark Ash Metallic with a 6.2L in February and it arrived in May. Still waiting on the chip for the heated seats. After reading the other comments I feel like I won the lottery that my truck was delivered after three months, especially with the 6.2L. If GM doesn’t cease the rectal-cranial interface they won’t have to worry about production because there won’t be anybody buying their over priced vehicles.
How about 2 months for a left rear axel seal for my new 2021 Corvette, with less than 1,800 miles.
Ordered a 2022 refresh Silverado 1500 double cab with diesel and pretty much all the options. Cancelled on July 8 with a discount offer for purchasing a new on lot Silverado or ordering a new one to be built. Must take delivery by January 3, 2023 to use the discount offer. Went to dealer on same day I received notice of cancellation of order and put in new order for 2023 Silverado double cab with same options as 2022 plus more options that were made available with the 2023. Now find out that double cabs will not be produced until at least January 2023. Now it looks like GM is only building crew cabs with short beds. If I wanted a crew cab with a short bed I would have ordered one or purchased one from the bloated inventory at dealers in my area. So much for getting a new truck from Chevy.
Waiting 6 months for my LYRIQ…. Very plain jane model – 2 wheel drive, 20″ tires (not low profile). Dealer says I should have it after 7 months of waiting.
Plenty of gobbledygook even on the ‘stripped’ model that I don’t want… Over-riding purpose of buying the car was it was a GM vehicle that could go well over 300 miles, and was large enough (supposedly larger than an Audi ETRON – which is $20,000 more and can’t go as far) – to be actually be able to carry things since it is ‘large’ mid-size. Bigger than XT5 but smaller than a XT6.
It would be a shame if I am waiting for CHIPS for some gobbledygook function that I don’t want.
Seeing as GM has only actually sold 36 of them in the first 10 months of the year (less than 1 per week) – it is obvious that GM has forgotten how to plan for everything that is required to run a Production Line.
Obvious answer is that Mary Barra must be even MORE INCOMPETENT and CLUELESS than even shown by her Public Personna.
UPDATE 3 months later. STILL no LYRIQ.
This next item is pretty good. Those lucky 10’s of people who got in on November 2021 order of THEIR LYRIQs had a choice of white, black, or silver for body colors for $59,990. Since my phone wasn’t answered then I went to the Caddy dealer EARLY on MAY 19th and got a HARD Build Order for a 2023 blue metallic for $750 plus $3,000 price increase in an unexpected price rise.
NOW, my dealer informs me that if I want this confirmed ordered vehicle in 2023 IT HAS TO BE BLACK ONLY !!!
NO other colors on 2023’s (until 2024). I said delete the paint option and I’ll take the black one just in hopes of getting it by Summer 2023. Didn’t want to wait another 15 months.
It’s January 2023 and they are telling you the only color you can get is Black. For any other color you have to wait until 2024? If that’s the case GM has serious issues. Good luck.
DrPiz:
Found out a few interesting things – at least for other LYRIQ purchasers… For one, The BLACK coloring also happens to be a $750 optional BLACK METALIC, so that means I have to pay extra for it, haha..
Regarding the $3,000 price increase for me and the reversion to $3,000 DECREASE in price for the 2024 models the footnote is the cheaper car has PLENTY removed from it…
– NO fancy AKR radio with 21 speakers.
– NO Super Cruise hardware.
– 48 amp versus 80 amp charger (this would be ok since I only want 32 amp like the old bolts and volts used to have). Now the 80 is optional on ALL trims and never automatically included. This is smart since very few homes would pay extra to have their house’s electrics enlarged plus at least $1,500 plus installation for the required 80 ampere wall box which NONE of it is covered by GM’s car charging receptacle installation deal (only will include a 32 amp outlet).
– NO Choreographed turn on light show (BIG DEAL – I don’t want this anyway but for 2023 I’m stuck with it).
This isn’t all the stuff they left off the basic 2024 ‘Tech’ Trim. The pricier LUXURY and SPORT trims still don’t have what the 2023’s have standard and I suspect that equipping a 2024 to look EXACTLY like a 2023 would be AT LEAST $10,000 more than the base $62,990 plus $750 for the unwanted black metalic paint which is the only thing available. So in a sense, the 2023 will be a great value (even though most of the added junk I don’t want), but it should be a good deal at trade in time. One automotive magazine suspects the 2024’s identically equipped with be $15,000 more.
If so, its worth the headaches and the wait for the 2023, even though I’m not wild about driving a car looking like the FBI owns it.
Bill,
All I can say is you have done your homework and have a lot more patience than I have. I have been on the list for over 1.5 year for a Z06 and am told it might be 2025 until I see it. That said, I am now on the list for an E-Ray thinking I may be able to get that quicker than the Z06. I am just going to sit back, relax and wait to hear from the dealers. Best of luck and hope it all works out for you.
Update 1/2 year later….. Waiting 11 months for a 2023 LYRIQ to be manufactured NEXT WEEK supposedly…. Only thing is GMA kept saying that 2023 model year production totally ended, and since March 20th (3/20/23), ONLY 2024’s will be built….
Dealer still claims factory has COMMITTED to building a 2023 Luxury Trim. Supposedly will advise me if I am forced into a 2024 model – which wouldn’t surprise me since 11 months later they STILL HAVE RUN OUT OF ‘OPULENT BLUE’ PAINT !!!! The manufactured vehicle supposedly will be BLACK ONLY. I hate black cars.
MY original order in 2020 was changed to 2021 . The Bristol TN dealer was only alotted 10 vettes. I was 9th and never moved up. I just gave up. Then that dealer sold out. The people that bought it were super nice, The sales manager pulled my paper work and offered me a 2022 that was in transit. Wish I’d bought it, IT was silver, that and white are just not my colors,
Went home thought about it a lot. did my research and came up with CIOCCA and had them reserve my 2023 3lt Z51. I turn 70 in 2 weeks and I am total & permanently disabled Vietnam vet. Been dreaming about a mid engine since high school.
And many dealers love this problem because if they have something in their lot they can charge an insulting markup, with their take it or leave it attitude. GM and their dealers are making huge profits off the back of American consumers.
Chevy is not seeing any of that “adjusted market value” money; that is the dealer. The franchise system in place now gives the manufacturer very little leverage in combatting that sort of thing beyond cutting allotments.
As for those “profits off the back of American consumers”: no one is standing out in the street with shotguns and flame throwers, forcing you to turn into their lot to buy what you don’t want, or at a price you will not pay. Being (intercoursed) by the dealer is something that is voluntary.
It seems like the majority of the people waiting are for ICE vehicles. It would be interesting to see how many EVs are being produced vs ICE. Every commercial and advertisement from GM is for EVs. GM has gone woke with our Government and is all in for EVs. Bill Gates said the other day that if natural gas and other forms of fossil fuels are not available, people will go to alternative green energy. The strategy is the same for GM. If ICE vehicles are not available customers will buy EVs. I hate to disappoint them but that is not going to happen anytime soon. I have no problem with EVs but you just can’t flip a switch and transition from fossil to green. It’s not hard you just have to have a strategy, plan, and roadmap to get from fossil to green. My guess is it will take at least 50 years with the country’s infrastructure taking the longest. One last comment – I wonder what is the total amount of deposits that the dealerships are holding and making interest? I know the dealership where I put a 1K deposit on a Z06 has taken 250 deposits so is holding $250k. That’s just one dealership and car model. We the people are getting ripped off. Time to take our deposits back.
Long time Chevy guy here (since the 60’s). I’m content to wait it through on the process if I have to. However, my son, is not. He likes chevy products but is in the final stages of buying a Toyota truck as they are on the lot now with the options he wants. Chevy has lost another potential long time customer. Sigh.
I ordered a 2022 Silverado, 4×4, High Country, crewcab in February of 2022. In July Chevrolet sent me an email stating that they could not fulfill my order because of constraints, and offered a $3000 certificate to make my order a 2023 model. My dealer contacted me in August and told me he had a allocation that could cover all the constraints except the multi flex tailgate, so i dropped that option in order to get the vehicle built. Even without the tailgate option, the vehicle MSRP was $3790 more expensive than when I originally ordered, and the interest rate available to me had doubled since the time of my original order. My new Silverado was delivered to me on 21 Oct 22. I traded a 2012 Avalanche, purchased new, that had 251,000 miles on it when traded, and i hope this new vehicle turns out to be as good as the one i traded.
I work in sales at a GM dealership and currently have four sold order vehicles that are built but have not shipped from their production facilities. The oldest of these was built the first week of June 2022. When i inquired when it would be shipped I was told “be assured that quality control is taking very good care of it.” Several months later my General Manager inquired why it had not shipped and was told “it was being given a heightened level of intensity,” but still no movement.
I leased two new cars this year…a ’22 Dodge Durango GT and a ’22 Chevy Blazer 2LT (wife’s car). They were both built in the same month…January 2022. My Durango came with heated seats, rear park assist, heated steering wheel…no chips missing or an IOU $50 credit on the window sticker. My wife’s blazer has the heated seats and rear park assist parts and buttons, but no brains in the computers, just two measly IOU credits on the sticker. And starting in 2020, GM decided that 2LT is just basically a base model, so they don’t offer leather-wrapped/heated steering wheels in the Blazer…pretty sad for a $41,000 vehicle. The dealer told her that the estimated date for getting the park assist chips was late summer and the heated seats were supposed to be in early 4th quarter. We just called the other day and they have no clue when either sets of chips are supposed to be in. Being that winter in Michigan is coming up quick and my wife’s seats ares still cold, this has convinced her that her next lease won’t be from the General. Other manufacturers have this chip thing figured out…they are prioritizing the features that people want and leaving out features that don’t really matter. Why is Mary so out of touch? At this point, with all of GM’s problems out there and widely publicized, anyone who buys their vehicles from Government Motors deserves what they get.
Ordered 2022 Sierra 2500HD AT4 in Nov 2021. My sales person made it very clear that the more “stuff” I put on the truck, the longer the lead time. I went with 20″ wheels and 5th wheel puck system. Left all the upgraded packages and safety drive stuff off. 8 weeks later, the truck showed up and I’ve been driving it ever since, minus heated and ventilated seats. All my friends that ordered a loaded up truck then are still waiting after 11 months. Ironically, at the same time I ordered an F250 Lariat since I have Ford X plan in addition to GM Supplier plan. 11 months later, Ford sends the 3rd communication they are going to build the truck in Dec. That’s now 13 months after the order, and the 2023 model upgrade is coming out at same time. I’m not taking the F250 when it comes in, even with a 10 speed transmission with a gas engine (shame in GM for taking so long to offer 10 speed in HD line in order to force $10k for un-needed diesel, I didn’t play the game, and the 6 speed is doing very well pulling 11,000 lb 5th wheel). The long lead time is impacting everyone. But GM is doing a very poor job communicating with their customers. It’s the same situation for the missing components.
Way to go GMA, stir the pot.
ICE folks, please don’t think the Bolt EV customers have been treated any better. Check out the Bolt forums. Almost no ‘22 models seem to have ever made it out of the factory. I had to cancel and re-order when ‘23 production appeared to start. Lots of completed cars were “in transit” for eight months! GM handling of these delays is a mess. I wonder if the factory even knows what cars are where.
Waited patiently for 18 months for dealer to place order. Finally cancelled order and got deposit refunded when given the run around on when my order would go in.
I’ve been waiting for a Sierra Denali Ultimate since the night they were introduced and I put the $100 down.
Now I get 3 emails a week pushing the Sierra EV–NO THANKS, I’d like for my truck to be useful not on a charger.
Still waiting for my Sierra Denali Ultimate order to be picked up. Put the order in on March 22. Unbelievable
Now into 4th month waiting for an Escalade ESV with the 3.0 liter diesel from a self-described “volume” Cadillac dealer in Indiana. No allocation yet. At time of order, was told 12-18 month wait time (but maybe less) between order and delivery. Can’t help but think Cadillac’s “EV at all costs” strategy is hampering internal combustion engine SUV production in Arlington, Texas, as GM allocates time and money away from ICE. A mistake, in my opinion. Consumers getting antsy. Might shop an import SUV.
We ordered our Bolt EUV in June and picked it up a couple of weeks ago. This was worth the wait. It is a fantastic vehicle. BTW, we tried to order a Toyota and they wouldn’t even take our order. Same with Nissan and Hyundai. I’m in the Phoenix area so maybe it’s just a local issue.
I’ve been waiting for a ct5 v blackwing and it’s gonna take 5 years! Like wtf, I had caddys all my life, now forced to buy else where a jaguar svr
Some of you might want to reorder from another dealership. If your order is at a dealer without the allocation for your particular vehicle/model, you’re not going to get it. Of course, if you want a loaded vehicle, you’ll have issues there as well. These issues are not isolated to GM.
I would think that there is someone at GM that has an idea when they will have the 22’s built and shipped. Mine is built and waiting on semiconductors (I think). Some should be able to give us an idea when they will get the chips to finish the vehicles. Perhaps someone with GM Authority has a contact within GM that could share some information??? Someone said they were going to get them all done by the end of October. But I have no idea if that is good information.
Signed the papers on an already built 2022 Enclave Premium at the end of May 2022. Was told it is in Michigan awaiting final approval and safety checks. Still waiting. No information on why it’s been sitting in an apparent graveyard already built for more than 5 months.
Ordered a 2023 Silverado HD Duramax LTZ mid July, took delivery Oct. 7. All options, no missing parts. Life is good (for me).
Ordered a 2022 Equinox Premier in April 2022. Car has been built and has an order number. Dealer contacted GM which states car is in a lot in Mexico. I contacted GM which informed me they contacted “the logistical team”. GM does not know why there is a delay or when or if the car will be delivered to the dealer. The dealer remains the dark as do I . Very sad. How can a company like this stay in business?
Ordered a 2022 Silverado 1500 on 10/28/2021. Was told in March 2022 it could not be built in the configuration I ordered. I reconfigured and re-ordered 3/11/2022. No sign of my truck.
I ordered my 2023 Bolt EUV on June 27th. I’m not sure when it officially went into production, but it arrived at my dealership on September 26th. It is a Premier Edition with Sun & Sound and Super Cruise, so it’s loaded. Not one constraint. I’m happily driving it today!
FORTUNATELY, we have a sweet 2017 Escalade with 18,000 miles on her so we don’t really HAVE to have the 2022 we ordered in March that was switched to a 2023 for a secret increase in price. UNFORTUNATELY, we are 79 years old and are wondering whether we will run out of time before our NEW car sleeps past the end of its warranty period.
I know some of it is parts, some of it is configuration and some of it is local dealer allocation. My local Caddy dealer has had my CT5-V Blackwing order for 10 months now. I was 5th in line & the dealer (Due to LOW allocation never delivered a single 2022) first told me I probably wouldn’t get a ’22. Now the order is a ’23 and with the $7000 price bump I’m now #3 in line. So far they’ve filled ONE 2023 order, but that one was built a month ago & is still sitting at the plant. Now they’re telling me I’ll likely not get a ’23 either. But the flipside is this dealer sells MANY Suburbans, Tahoes and Escalades, and as such has very high allocation there, so I placed my ’23 Escalade order in June & other than having to switch engines (I wanted the Diesel, but couldn’t get it) my June order arrived 2 weeks ago. By the way, I see several references to configuration here, and it’s a major factor. If you insist on getting your vehicle built a specific way, you could wait, possibly a very long time. If you’re willing to adjust (I gave up Carbon Fiber on my CT5-V to keep the order in the pipeline & I gave up the diesel to get my Escalade built immediately) things could / might move faster. Configuration is huge though. I was told before they even started building the 2023 model year CT5-V Blackwings “If you want a Carbon Fiber Package, you will NOT get a 2023.”
Am I happy about it? NO, but other than switching brands, it is what it is…
Ordered a refresh 1500 silverado back in March. The truck got built at the end of May but only for me to find out that Feldman chevy in New Hudson Michigan, decided to not honor EP (after they said they would back in March when I placed the order with 1500$ down) but also add $8k adp to the mix. So I had to place another order at a different dealer in May. I haven’t heard anything beside the color i want isn’t available and limited on just about every option I want. After Feldman sticking it to me and GM Customer service not giving a sh*t about what happen at Feldman (James Jordan sales manager decided to call me “scum” and “f-ing loser”, I recorded the whole convo) I also placed an order for a f150. Whatever truck comes in first I’m gonna buy and if it is the chevy, you bet your ass it’s my last gm product ever.
I waited 8 months!!! It took 3 months after it was built. Now I have a car that is a 2022 snd the 23’s are out already! First time I ever purchased a GM car!!
No more comments please…
Tried to get a Malibu to replace my expiring lease vehicle. GM didn’t accept the order so after 6 months had to choose another lease, got one from Ford. First non GM vehicle since 1982.
I’m pissed, & screwed at the same time. Ordered a 2022 Blazer in Feb., 2022- 2 months before our Acadia lease expired. Had to extend the old lease, or go without a car. But lease can only be extended without penalty if you lease another GM vehicle. 7+ months later, still no Blazer, but can’t lease a non-Gm vehicle without a $ penalty.
Can’t comprehend why people lease. Throwing away money and forced to upgrade on a regular basis, never gain equity. Car companies make a killing on leases. Go to YouTube and look up a guy named Dave Ramsey. Better yet call him on the radio and tell him you want to lease a new vehicle with $4,500 down and $600 a month lease payment. And then cry you can’t retire because you haven’t saved enough.
Or as Dave calls it, “fleasing”.
Dave Ramsey is a moron. Even when interest rates were at rock bottom he advised people pay cash for a depreciating asset rather than investing that cash to earn you far more than the interest you would pay on the loan.
That’s just one pertinent bit of ignorance from Dave. His hoards of house-flipping slumlords are responsible for a vast amount of the financial problems in the world right now. Dave Ramsey’s counsel is extremely bad on a societal level.
If his advice about leasing is genuinely as ignorant about how leases work as your summary I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised.

Not buying the chip shortage anymore. Price dictates supply. Too many other manufacturers building cars and providing an ample supply of the vehicles that customers want. Why GM and Ford are having supply issues should becoming a joke ,,,,40K Super Duty’s sitting at Kentucky Speedway. How do sell a truck that’s a year old and exhibiting signs of rust with 5 miles on it?
Ordered a Sierra Denali Ultimate in Dec 2021. In March told no Supercruise, in April no 6.2 liter engine only Diesel. So cancelled.
Ordered a 2022 SS 1LE Camaro in 4-2022, month later had to change it to 2023. And sitting at 1100 at the dealership that gives you no information at all. Put another Order in to a different dealership who is very informational. Still waiting on both.
This is ABSOLUTELY POINTLESS if you don’t break it down by model, trim, high-demand features, etc. For instance, HD trucks have been prioritized over other models because they have less competition there. I’ve had HD trucks allocated less than a week after the customer placed the order, and delivered in 3 months. I have loaded Yukon Denali orders over a year old with no end in sight. Sierra 1500s tend to fall in-between, but that depends on specific features as well. A couple of my oldest orders are for stripped down single cab trucks (one 1500 one 2500). Can’t get those built to save my life!
I can’t even imagine the goal of a survey that doesn’t take into account anything more than total wait time, period. Thinking about my own customers, I can think of several who would probably respond with a time months in excess of their actual time since they placed their order because they still don’t understand how the process works. Bad information is worse than no information, and all you’re set up for here is collecting bad info.
Not a problem as I will never purchase another GM Product. Mary will kill GM with the EV’s
Ordered a 2022 Yukon Denali in Dec 2021. After multiple constraints for Rear Seat Media Package, Technology Package, Heated Seats, etc., my order got converted into a 2023 model and the dealer had to reorder the vehicle in Sept. 2022 and I received a document titled “GM Order Workbench.” Anyone know what this means in terms of where my vehicle is in the process? I’ve been searching for existing vehicles to purchase off the lot, but if I can’t get anywhere with that I may start considering purchasing something else other than a GM brand.
Go for it, Mary is more concerned with EV’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone that orders a vehicle has one there is an order number that you can look up to see where it is in production but you should call the dealership and deal with them messaging them online is like talking to a brick. But as for the GM order workbench I think it’s just a copy for your reference of what you ordered
Going on 11 months now for a 2022 Denali. My “order” arrived about 1 week ago, but it had the wrong engine, wrong wheels, wrong running boards, and didn’t have the tech package that I ordered. The dealership learned in September it’d be arriving with the wrong engine, but they didn’t know it’d be arriving with those other options missing until it arrived at their door. The only options they provided me with was to buy the truck which doesn’t match my purchase contract or start the order process over with a 2023. I signed another purchase contract to buy another 2023, but am actively looking for other options.
Frustrating for sure, Ryan. Mine was made a couple of weeks ago and invoiced. I haven’t seen a window sticker yet but did receive the manufacturer’s build sheet. Nothing appears to be missing. We’ll see (if and when it actually delivers). I’m generally positive and understanding with manufacturer’s problems but there are too many issues for GMC not to have a creditable satisfaction plan.
I ordered a 2022 tahoe with a diesel engine in April 2022 they switch the order June 1to a 2023 the dealership says last week I’m 4th from production. The dealership has a 2023 RST diesel that was delivered yesterday. My patience is getting thin waiting. It’s not like they reach out to you I always have to reach out to them for an update wish GM had a better way to update yourself messaging them on the website it like talking to a brick
Where are all the work vans going ? GOIG ON 20 MONTHS NOW !
I put $1000 deposit on a 2022 Cadillac CT5-V on January 25th 2022. I took delivery September 24th 2022 on my 2023 (no typo) Cadillac CT5-V so total wait time 7 months 30 days
I ordered a 2022 Sierra AT4 in December of 2021. The order for accepted mid summer of 22, the build week was set at October 3, 2022.
I know have a 2023 built and waiting transport with the expected delivery date already gone and gone.
I put a deposit down in June 2022 of a 2022 Sierra AT4. It already had a build date scheduled for early august. I got confirmation mid August that it was built. Now its been 10 weeks since then and I haven’t gotten any updates on shipping from the dealer.
build me the race car 🙂 .. ill be sure it gets a show case above an beoyond.. what most thought it cant or shouldnt do.,. tell one day its its da king again.. the bowtie boss hog 🙂 da 831 race driver 😉 .. get those tires by the pallet ready 🙂 .. we gunna ,., lay some rubber 🙂 ,,, ps chevy,. thanks for the new yenko super sport.. I ordered a 3500 Silverado wt Aug 12 2022 it’s November 2 and nothing ! Last 4 trucks were new Silverado hd s I guess I will have to look at other options ! The excuse train getting old !
So I’ve been calling dealers around the country and a lot of them are charging well over MSRP for Yukon Denali and Escalades, which I think is ridiculous. Are most people really paying over MSRP these days? Has anyone been able to talk a dealer out of charging over MSRP? If so, how did you do it?
Call Pam at Robideaux GMC (no Cadillac). They sell well off of MSRP. She’s given several of us excellent deals. 208-292-0192. They’re in Idaho. I’m flying to pick mine up and take a little vacation on the way home.
Thanks so much! I will give her a ring. If she has what I’m looking for in a Yukon Denali and is willing to sell under MSRP, I will be heading to Idaho too! Lol!
Tell her Mark Slack recommended that you call her. I don’t mind sharing other info at mark.slack.usa at gmail.com. I ordered a Denali 1500 and a coworker bought a 2500 AT4. His was 18K less than a local quote (crazy). Mine is well under MSRP.
Here’s an update Charles. My truck order has popped up on Robideaux’s website as “In Transit” with the Window Sticker available. It is exactly as ordered except it is missing the electronic steering column lock (chip issue). Almost all vehicles are missing this item – it still has mechanical steering column lock. All of the other equipment is exactly as ordered. Now we’ll see how long it takes for the dealer to get it. I’m guessing it will be in before Christmas.
They have two 2023 Yukon Denali Ultimate models and one Yukon SLT shown as “In Transit” as well. They have a 2022 Yukon Denali Ultimate in stock at the dealer.
I’m encouraged.
Funny, Dave Smith in Idaho was the only dealer in my range willing to order for msrp and no dealer fees or bs …. we will see … waiting since July order for my Traverse, and so far, they decided to pass on a subsequent price increase ($300) and no comment yet if they will honor the $500 November cyber cash discount — Traverse is built, waiting for shipping. I can opt out if they do not honor the incentives or insist on charging the price increase.
Robideaux has floor salesmen and others who sell more like most dealers – many at MSRP. Pam and her team handle Internet sales and will knock a lot off of MSRP. I have not dealt with her for anything other than a Sierra 1500 and one AT4 but the savings have been significant. If you just show up at the dealer or call for sales you might not get as good a deal. Ask for Pam. My “deal” is a locked price when they placed the order – if GMC raises prices my price stays the same. I will be eligible for whatever GMC incentives apply at the time of purchase (so, if the zero-interest expires before my vehicle is purchased I won’t be eligible; if a discount applies when I purchase then I will be eligible for that). She’s knowledgeable (at least on the Sierra’s) and I suspect most models. I suggest you call her rather than going to the dealership.
Robideaux Motors has a number of salesmen who sell for whatever the going rate is (MSRP mostly). The online sales group is the one with the discounted numbers. My vehicle has been made and is showing (exactly as ordered with the matching VIN) on their website as “In Transit”. Note: it is missing the electronic steering column lock as are most vehicles. If you approach Robideaux make sure you call them and ask for Pam – she heads up the online sales. The inside guys (floor salesman) are going to hit you for MSRP.
Any update on your traverse? I ordered mine June 29th. Supposedly mine is built and sitting waiting to be brought to the dealer which is 2 hours away since I live in MI. No updates from my dealership or simply they just say they don’t know. Very frustrated.
my Traverse is in Spokane waiting to offload from the train. (ordered mid-July) My dealer is about an hour away from Spokane, so I would expect it to be delivered before the end of November so I can get the $1000 incentives and the Costco $1000. Dave Smith is honoring the msrp price we agreed to (other than passing on the price increase) >>> yes it is very frustrating since the dealer can’t promise it might not sit on that train a couple of weeks. Really poor GM logistics and communications with dealers and buyers! They do not deserve our business.
My dealer has not offered honoring any of the incentives going on right now. I will ask. It makes me think they’re holding these vehicles on purpose so we miss out on incentives and keep driving pricing up on the process. I will not be getting another GM vehicle after this either and I’ve been a lifetime GM customer. Other companies are getting the job done. Sick of the excuses.
Caitlin, I am thinking the exact same thing! But if yours is delivered before the end of November, dealer has to give you $500 incentive and be sure to apply online to get your $500 cyber cash coupon! If you are a Costco member, get your $1000 coupon now, that is good till Jan 3.
Sales must be slumping or GM would not be offering incentives now (a price decrease in effect) — I would expect the incentives will be the same or better in December, so maybe a delay could help us out. If they can’t deliver mine by the end of December, I will probably cancel and get my deposit back. I am done playing GM games!
I have been buying new GM vehicles for 50 years… no more.
Sad. I live in southern Idaho and there’s a dealer down here who sells GM trucks who always insisted they had the best prices in the entire country. Not anymore. Now they’re playing the MSRP markup game too. With a name like Robideaux it sounds like this dealer is probably in Louisiana or someplace like that, but they’re actually in extreme northern Idaho. In so many cases you can buy a plane ticket, a couple motel rooms, and several tanks of gas and travel across country to purchase your vehicle and drive it home for less (sometimes MUCH less) than the markup. Many of these dealers who do lots of online sales can even arrange insured, covered shipping to you for less!
Knutsen Chev in Post Falls really jerked me around …. on a Traverse they had on the lot ….they refused to sell it to me remotely (I live in MT) and would not hold it for me with a deposit, and insisted I had to drive to the dealership to buy it before someone else takes it. I refused to trust them the 4 hours it would take to get there. —
I actually bought 2 cars this year and I paid MSRP for both. One I ordered and it took 8 months to get and the second I bought in transit and took 2 months to get. While I was looking for the second it seems if the car is on the lot they are selling over MSRP, but if you can find before it get to the lot you can get it for MSRP, which is ridiculous, but it’s the world we live in today. I doubt you’ll find dealership selling under MSRP, but I wish you good luck. The dealership I ordered my Cadillac CT5-V sold an Escalade ESV for $50k over MSRP.
Waiting 9 months now for my Sierra SLT.
Bruce, my SLT was ordered in October of 2021. Date of mfg was 1/2022 , parked in a storage area till May 10 of 2022 and I bought off lot 5/11/22. It is still missing 3 chips with no committed date for delivery. I’ve had 6 months and enjoy but it is limited edition not the refresh instrument .that’s OK for me as it is better than nothing. Thought they would have chips by now
I did not order the truck as I would have added a few more things but still.nice. Dealer getting new trucks in with chips so I know they have them but new gets priority over already sold ones. Very frustrating. Good luck with yours when you get it. Sierra 1500 is a nice ride. Wish now I had waited for the refresh but none available when I was looking. MSRP is pretty standard because of demand.
Waiting 14 months now for Denali ultimate duramax
I “ordered” a 2022 Colorado for the second time in late March. The first time was in November 2021. After 4 months of run around they told me that they actually never ordered it because I never agreed to terms. They also wouldn’t give me a quote on my current SUV because of the 3–5-month delay in getting the new truck. The value of my current SUV is one of the terms, can’t do one without the other right? I told the dealership to take a flying leap and went to another one where I placed my current order. Most recent information I got was I that I could reconfigure it without some of my options and “possibly” speed up the process, but there are no guarantees,
What the hell is the point of ordering a NEW vehicle if you can’t get all the bells and whistles that you want?
This past week my son picked up a 2023 Silverado 1500 LT off the lot with the 2.7 twin turbo 4 cylinder engine and 10 speed transmission, using supplier discount and $1000 Costco discount. I just took it for a ride and it is the fastest truck I have ever driven. Super impressed! It has all the new 2023 interior which GM has done an exceptionally nice job not only on the infotainment but especially on the instrumentation cluster. His truck came with heated seats and heated steering wheel, ane keeping assist, forward crash protection, and adaptive cruise control. There are no missing components. So it looks like GM has gotten past the 6 or 8 months of selling vehicles without parts. New customers are well taken care of. But existing customers are still waiting. My 2022 Sierra 2500 HD AT4 is still missing three components with no commitment to retrofit after 11 months of ownership. There’s a certain amount of “reasonable patience” , and it seems most customers are well beyond that point now. GM needs to consider some form of compensation to those who were willing to help the company by purchasing a vehicle w/o all the parts. I received a GM survey in June and it asked what might be fair compensation to those who have had to wait far lso much onger than the original 4 to 6 weeks that most were told by their dealers. I suggested a $500 voucher toward a new vehicle with no expiration date, or $500 of GM factory accessories. I hope someone from GM is reading this and the company reconsiders some form of compensation for customers who have waited beyond reasonable time frame.
Finally good news for me today. Yesterday the dealer I ordered my AT4 with a year ago for he was able to request a dealer pick up on my truck. It’s been built and sitting since October 3rd. He requested the pick up yesterday and received approval today. My truck is scheduled to be picked up on December 1.
It’s been a long haul but it almost over.
Ordered a diesel 4wd suburban LT July 14. Status is still 1100.
Also added an order for a diesel 4wd Yukon XL XLT at another dealer about 3 weeks ago.
Both salesmen promised weekly updates. The only updates I get are when I go and sit at their desks.
Update… The Chevrolet order was accepted December 14 – 5 months to the day from when I first put my money on the table. The good news is that I got EVERYTHING I was looking for.
I just checked my code has change to 3400. Looks like they start building it next week. I wonder how long it will take to get to my dealer now. I’m not buying the rims and electric tonneau cover until until I’m notified it has shipped. I hear it takes a month to ship it.
My 2022 GM AT44 came off the assembly line on June 3rd, I’m still waiting for delivery like tens of thousands of other GM customers. They say these vehicles are waiting for computer chips. I cannot figure out why any company would build a product that they knew they could not finish and let it sit in a dirt field for over half of a year. I think GM must be delusional and think that they are making wine instead of vehicles and that they need to be aged to increase the quality of their product. Unfortunately sitting out exposed to the elements, rodents and bird c*** does nothing but diminish the product. Then to make the situation worse dealers are adding 5 to $10000 above sticker price to a vehicle that has lost its new car smell and appearance
many months ago. Disgusting to say the least.
I picked my 2023 AT4 up today. Ordered December 21,2021, accepted by GM on August 5th 2022, built October 3rd 2022. Dealer requested and was granted a dealer pick up from the overflow lot in Indiana. Paid dealer invoice price which was about 3 grand under sticker.
Nothing except the chip for locking steering wheel. Sexiest truck I’ve ever owned in my 60 years. Definitely worth the wait.
Congratulations. My order was accepted about the same time and the truck has been made (sitting in Indiana). I call the dealer regularly (they’re good to work with) and I call GM every now and then to log my request for info. Supposedly it started the last stage of inspection this week. The code has moved to 4300. I’d like to have it before Christmas. Thanks for the update.
Contact your dealer and ask them if it’s available for dealer pickup. My dealer said that he’s requested pickup now on six occasions. Two of them they have allowed them to come up and pick up the vehicle. If they’re easy to work with it’s worth a try.
I’ll do that. The dealer said there is a code indicating it’s “on hold” so I’m not sure it will be released. I’ve seen the window sticker and it’s complete except for the electronic steering column lock. Who paid to pick up your truck – did that just come out of the destination fee? My dealer (and I) are 1,900 miles from the plant.
Destination fee stayed the same. Dealer sent two people on about 5 hours each way to pick it up and drive it back.
Ordered a Sierra 1500 AT4 with 3 liter diesel on April 1. Was originally supposed to get a Metallic Silver 2022 model…estimated delivery date of July. Heard nothing from the dealer so I called and was told GM ran out of silver paint so pick another color. I selected Titanium Rush and was told probably sometime in August. August came and went so again I call the dealer. This time I’m told they’re not building 2022 models so I need to switch to a 2023…oh yeah also there’s still no silver paint so stick with Titanium Rush. Dealer calls in mid-October and tells me the vehicle has been built and has a VIN but no word on delivery. It’s in Fort Wayne 2 hours away but can’t expedite delivery. So here we sit in early December, and all they can tell me is “no movement”. Friend who works in the biz says the first two stories sound like bunk and they probably got my truck in and sold it to someone chomping at the bit and willing to pay way over sticker. I’m about fed up and feeling like I’m being f#cked with.
Here are a few suggestions:
1 – when you place your order ask you dealer for the order number. The order number is generated when the order is placed with GMC. If they’ve actually placed the order then they will have the order number and should know what it is. If they don’t know what they’re doing ask for another person to help (manager).
2 – when you call your dealer for updates request the Event Code. These are codes for production status determined by the plant. The dealers are not always updated promptly and certainly not in real time. Still, the dealer should have its most current production status as expressed by the event code.
3) Once it goes into production there will be a “build sheet”. Ask your dealer for the build sheet. This is a list of everything that was included with the ORDER for the vehicle (doesn’t mean they’ve made it or that everything will be included once it is made – it’s the listing of what they are intending to build). Dealers have access to these build sheets when they are created. A dealer can use the build sheet and learn that the wrong color was placed in the build, etc. The build sheet for your vehicle will have the same order number that was generated by GMC.
4) Once it’s in production a VIN will be established. Ask the dealer for the VIN.
5: Call the dealer weekly for updates.
6) When you have the VIN call GMC and ask them for an update. It will be during one of these conversations that you realize there is poor communication between the plant and the dealers. They will tell you they are not allowed to give you the event code. Maybe so, but they can give you some words about where the process stands. Most importantly, when your call GMC a record is entered into the log and you become one of the squeaky wheels. They are nice folks who don’t have good information to share. Be nice to them and keep digging. You need your VIN to track the vehicle with GMC.
7) The phone number for GMC production information customer service is 800-462-8782. They may tell you to call the dealer but make sure you register a call with your VIN and name so it’s logged.
8) At some point (well before the truck is ready to ship) the dealer will have the Window Sticker. Ask for a copy of the window sticker – this is how the vehicle was actually built. Compare it to the build sheet and your order to see if anything was left off. My vehicle did not include the steering column lock but did include everything else.
9) Here are the event codes:

My dealer has dedicated people who create online orders and dedicated people whose only job is to track progress and report to customers. They are very informed and professional. We’ve exchanged numbers and I talk to them every week (or more if something happens).
Not all dealers are created equal. Your dealer rep may not be informed and may have other responsibilities from answering the phone, floor sales, customer delivery, etc.. I have a great dealer. If your dealer rep is unable to answer questions then I suggest you move up the food chain and you should get someone to help before you get to the General Manager. If you get the run around – go straight to the General Manager. The order process is frustrating enough without having to deal with people who don’t care or are uninformed.
Be nice.
Is there an similar process for those who have been waiting over a year to receive the retrofits for multiple missing parts? Why is GM building new with all the parts when they have 100’s of thousands of vehicles they already sold that are missing parts? Does anyone have any ethics anymore? Wait until you take your new vehicle in for any service. You will see that customer service has become obsolete, and GM doesn’t care. I’m exhausted after dealing with multiple dealers and GM itself for over a year. It’s time to let the legal people take over.
Ordered a 22 Sierra 1500 SLT on April 6, was built the end of July, so I’m told! GMC tells me check with dealer and dealer says it’s on MP hold. When order went in I was told 8 to -9 weeks which I knew was BS but I never though I would still be waiting after 9 months.
There are 23’s at4’s on the lot for 8k more and the dealer has tried to put me in a vehicle I don’t want. If I don’t get what I ordered why bother!
I ordered a ’23 Tahoe Z71 few days before Thanksgiving of this year (2022)…am I to think I may not get my order accepted? It is currently in the 1100 status (I do have an Order number). I’m a patient man, but my current SUV is having transmission issues and Im getting nervous. Plus, I put down a hefty down payment. Im worried I won’t get my down payment back if I eventually lose patience and move to Plan B. Suggestions/advice/etc?
It won’t hurt to ask your dealer! They might have customers waiting anxious to buy your Tahoe when it comes it. I had cancel clauses written in my purchase agreement where I would get my $1000 deposit back on my Traverse.
I had an alternative show up and my dealer was just fine with refunding my deposit if I wanted to cancel.
I ordered my 2023 Traverse in July and just picked it up last week. Sounds like GM is catching up now and you might find what you want in stock or negotiate a better deal now on a new order that might arrive sooner.
You also might get a better price as GM is offering rebates and price cuts …. and I got $1000 Costco rebate good till Jan 3 — discounts should get better each month
I put deposits at two dealerships. I asked both to agree that I could ask for my deposit back any time before the order was accepted. When the Suburban order was accepted I went immediately to the GMC dealer and got that deposit back. They were very friendly, no arguments.
It did take 5 months to get the order accepted. Now I’m waiting for a build week.
PJ, I’m patient also but had a high need-to-know and have done some digging. The Event Code 1100 means the order was placed by the dealer with GM. It moves to Event Code 2000 when GM accepts the order. When the order is accepted they will show the date scheduled for the build – that will be the week your vehicle is going to be made. Your dealer is able to look at the event code status any time. I listed the event codes from soup to nuts in an early reply in this thread. Might be worth getting familiar with.
The 2024 Tahoe is scheduled for production November 2023 so your order will in all likelihood be accepted.
Here are few things to fill a boring evening:
1) Look at the GM website (not your dealer, GM’s) and search inventory. Spec out a vehicle just like your vehicle order and see if there are any in the country.
2) Fiddle with the spec and find out what is available and the difference between your order and those available. That may give you an idea if you ordered something that takes longer to build/acquire.
3) Once the vehicle is made (and well before it’s delivered) it shows up on this GM inventory and also on the dealer’s inventory. You will see a lot marked as IN-TRANSIT.
4) There are event codes that break down the IN-TRANSIT status that the dealer can see – it may be sitting at the plant, or in a quality check queue, or any number of other things and still be considered IN-TRANSIT. But if the vehicle is on the inventory, even if it’s been marked IN-TRANSIT, it’s been made.
5) Once you see a vehicle on the website inventory then it is good to look at the Window Sticker. The Window Sticker will tell exactly how it’s made and if anything was left off. Note: the dealer can get a build sheet before the vehicle is made that indicates to production how the vehicle is SUPPOSED to be made. I like seeing that and checked off the items to make sure the order was placed correctly. The build sheet is an instruction and not a record of the build. The Window Sticker is the real record of what was actually built.
6) You can also tell on the Window Sticker where the vehicle was manufactured. If the vehicle is manufactured at a plant that is producing vehicles that are actually on the ground at dealers then that’s a good sign. Sometimes individual plans will have delivery issues and make vehicles that end up sitting for a long time. If your vehicle is made in a plant that has no current (actual on the ground) inventory at dealers then you may have to wait longer. If your vehicle is made at a plant that is the same as the plant recorded for landed vehicles at dealers then that’s a good sign that at least they are moving vehicles.
I ordered a vehicle in August so I would get a 2023 instead of a 2022. I received a build date before the end of August for late September. The vehicle was made in late September on schedule. (Oh, once they make it then it has a VIN to help track. If there’s no VIN there is no vehicle.) I’ve been following the steps after they made it and it went through a few quality checks and has been shown as available for transport now. The transport may be the frustrating part of this journey because the vehicle is made and it’s sitting somewhere but not moving. Once it’s loaded on a train car then it should take a couple of weeks to get to your dealer.
I’m still waiting on mine and expect it in January. If I get it before the end of January then that will be five months from the time the order was accepted to the time it was delivered. The dealer I’m working with is very informed and experienced. They told me at the time of order that when things were working well earlier in 2022 that it took eight weeks to make a vehicle from the time the order was accepted (no parts issues). They guesstimated the best case for me would be four months and the likely case for delivery would be six months.d
Without knowing anything about the production challenges with a Z71 Tahoe (nice vehicle) I would guess that your wait will be about six months from the time the order is accepted. Good luck.
I’ll post again on this thread when I pick up my vehicle.
Great info…thank you very much.
Finally received my 2022 Sierra SLT after a 9 month wait. Dealership couldn’t tell me anything about my Truck, didn’t seem to know anything about it! Said screw it, so happy to get it I drove it home which is 550 miles from dealership. Realized I didn’t get some options I was told I would be getting. My local dealership was super helpful, I ordered a 2023 for an extra 5,000 dollars now hopefully I wont have a 9 month wait. Just didn’t want to deal with Charlotte Mi dealer anymore and get this all behind me!
Hope you do get what you want but curious as to what options you did not receive on your 22′ SLT AND REASONS given for not getting. I purchased a 22 Limited SLT in May of 22 missing some options and promised retrofits would be installed as sone as parts were avaliable. Have heard very little from GMC and nothing from Dealer as to if or when this might happen. Beginning to believe it may never happen. I feel they have had the time to make or buy the parts by now. Feeling I’ve been forgotten in liew of new production and EVs in process. Hope to hear soon but loosing faith. Anyone else feeling this way ? Need to discuss plan to resolve.
Been patient but I wanted heated stearing wheel and heated seats. It’s January and very cold. Paid the dealer full MSRP minus a small inconvenience fèe for missing features. $175.00 wish I had known then what I know now. Would have not agreed to sale. Lesson learned. Don’t pay full price unless you get all the features on the window sticker. Very disappointed in GM And the Dealer.
You’re right to feel disappointment. I would start a regular call routine to both the dealer and GM. You can ask your dealer the best GM contact number for this sort of information. Have your VIN handy and make sure they know you expect the call (with GM) to be a record call. Maybe you’ll find out something positive but at least you’ll start the process of being the squeaky wheel.
It’s a shame to pay this sort of money for a vehicle and have important components missing – especially bad considering the promise of the missing components is part of the reason you agreed to the purchase.
I have written down in my notes that the SLT pro safety package included HD surround Vision and front and rear park assist and rear cross traffic and pedestrian alert. That does not come with the Pro Safety they come with the Safety plus. Salesmen was mistaken when he told me that and will not stand by that he said it. Another frustrating wait and traded my Truck in on the first one so no Truck till my new 23 gets made and delivered!
Ordered a Tahoe in November 2022, if I don’t get it by the end of February 2023, I will cancel the order! 👎🏻 on any further business with GM.
Don’t blame you. This is garbage. I’ve been waiting for a Denali Ultimate since January 22, told dealer to shove it.
Robert…once you told dealer to shove it, (love that by the way) did you get your deposit/down payment back without any hassle?
No problem.
Six months after ordering, I finally took delivery of my 2023 Traverse. However, at one point I inquired if I could cancel and get my deposit back (we did have refund contingencies in our contract) … when I found one on the lot at another dealership. Dealer was more than willing…. of course, he probably had buyers lined up to take it when it came in, and no doubt with more profit. Makes me think I made a big mistake… instead of making our agreement to refund my $1000 deposit, I should have made them make a deposit to me that was not refundable if they did not perform or deliver my Traverse as promised. (Dealer had a Jan 15 deadline, when I could cancel.) By contract, I also could cancel if the price increased or if they did not honor ANY GM incentives issued in the time I was waiting.
Checked in with dealer yesterday. Truck still sitting in Indiana waiting for rail shipment. Finished, invoiced, PAID by dealer, not shipped. The dealer is understandably as irritated as I am about the delay. This dealer pays for his inventory and does not “floor plan” anything with GM. He paid for my truck in October and I’d gladly pay him for it as soon as I can touch it.
My deal with the dealer included a deposit of $1000 with a price guarantee. If I buy something else from them they will not require that I take the vehicle I put the deposit down on. If I just cancel then they have 30 days after they receive the vehicle to sell it after which time they keep the $1000. They’d be able to sell the truck easily so that wasn’t an issue for me as far as taking any risk.
I just want the truck and have no second thought that the dealer will back out of the deal (because I have a written agreement consummated by a deposit).
The MSRP has gone up about $10,000 since I placed the order.
Sounds like you have an awesome Dealer. Who eats the 10k increase in MSRP ? Dealer has already paid GM for the vehicle. Looks like GM is really getting greedy or run into some parts price increases since October. Curious as to to what vehicle you ordered that would inflate by 10k in 3 months. Glad you got a contract price in writing. It’s a win win for you when ever you get your hands on the vehicle. Hope you get it soon. Enjoy !
The dealer is awesome. I ordered a Denali 1500 Sierra with technology and reserve packages (and a few other things – not the Ultimate.) MSRP when ordered was just under $77K. They sold me the vehicle for just over $71K and this happened in mid-August. The truck was made in late September exactly as scheduled by GM. I received a copy of the Window Sticker and VIN in October and the dealer was invoiced for the vehicle. It’s gone through several mystery event codes since then that don’t have specific meaning (hold, quality check, etc.) but has been available for rail transport for about a month now. GM (through the Zone General Manager) marked it as “hot” (because of my complaints and the dealer’s complaints) and he confirmed that the truck really is sitting, complete, ready for rail shipment. The dealer’s beef with GM is primarily that he’s paid them for the vehicle already and they are not shipping it yet.
Just for grins I ran the same spec’d vehicle through a configurator and it had an MSRP of just over $86K. Mine has an MSRP of $77K and my contract is for a bit over $71K. The price increase is for what the same vehicle would cost if ordered today – the MSRP on mine will not go up. So far I like how the pricing has worked out for me keeping in mind I don’t have a truck and someone has had my $1,000 for six months.
My “deal” with the dealer is that they pass through any GM incentives (discounts, rebates, employee pricing, zero interest) available at the time of sale (whatever is going on that month) to me. Not much is offered on Denali for discounts or incentives.
Well I ordered a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali on Mar23,2022. It was built on June 29th, 2022 and has been sitting in Fort Wayne Indiana ever since. So for 6 months it has been sitting there waiting for the chip to be installed. But wait GM is shipping completed 2022 GMC Denali’s with all the chips ready to go to dealers but can’t find a chip to put in trucks that are sitting. Just more BS by GM. Every time I send an email to GM I get the same scripted response about delays, parts shortages labour shortages Etc. Never once have they told me what they are doing or who is doing anything to complete the builds on the vehicles we all have ordered to get delivered to the dealers. They talk about customer satisfaction well they can’t even spell it. Pretty sure our concerns and comments here fall on deaf ears and nothing will ever come from it. Pretty sad for sure while the executives sit in their offices collecting big salaries and bonuses while the laugh at the little guy.
Pretty bizarre situations some of you are in. I finally gave up on my build and told them to cancel mine (been in 1100 status) asked for a refund of my deposit. Dealer said no problem. Got very lucky…called another dealer (was my 7th dealership too call) and asked what they had on their lot or transit (Tahoe Z71). He looked and was shocked when he found one that will be delivered next week. Said someone must have backed out at the wrong time. Anyway…it has everything I want including color, except the sliding console. And that’s ok…one less thing that will go in the the future. Bonus…it’s about $6500 less too.
Anyway…so, hopefully in the next week or so, I will be driving my new ride. Good thing, he verified it’s in a lot within an hour of the dealership. Worse case…he’ll go and get it. Again…hopefully.
You are one of the lucky ones. Most cannot get any Z71′ s . Hope you get it it soon and enjoy. GM needs the revenue . Don’t understand the transportation issues. Kinda weak excuse to me. They must already have their money for the build and sale.
Honestly it’s unbelievable. How retarded america is and how big they act around the world. We can’t get this we can’t get that, well then build it in your own country. If it’s hazardous to the environment, build it in your desserts and unpopulated regions. They are ready to freaking jump any country for their natural resources in less than 24 hours but can’t have factories to help their car manufacturing to be independent. I paid 140k for a custom suburban in September 2022. It’s almost February 2023. Get your horses together and get to work. Stop blaming others on ur late productions.
I agree with you. We have over 10 million jobs available in the US that we cannot fill because of the government handouts that entice them to stay home. We have over 6 million illegals that have entered the country over the last two years and it will continue to grow. The government is giving them free housing, food, medical, education, etc again which is telling these illegals to come to America and live for free. I suggest the government invests in building manufacturing factories for an array of products and have these facilities manned by government-subsidized workers and illegals. Stop the free ride for all. It would be a win-win for all. But that will never happen because the activists and left would call it racist, slave labor, and affecting climate change. God Bless America!
I am waiting for a 2023 chevy 3lt, awd,v6 blazer for 6 months.
(SIgh) Can anyone explain to me what is going on. I am 10 months in on my 2nd attempt at a 2022 Colorado. They want me to re-configure and resubmit a build for a 2023 as that “might” speed things up, but there is no guarantee. I honestly don’t like the redesign and had my heart set on a 2022.
Everything I have read says that the factories have been operating non-stop. I have seen multiple reports (including on this site) that there are parking lots or fields full of partially finished vehicles just waiting for chips. If they haven’t finished the 2022’s yet, how can they be starting 2023’s? With inflation I feel like my purchasing power is declining by the day, not to mention the value of my trade in. If GM does eventually get their heads out of their collective asses and builds the thing, I honestly may not be able to afford it anymore.
I had a similar problem trying to order a 2022 Bolt EUV. The factory would never pick up the order. The dealer finally figured out they weren’t making any 2022’s with SuperCruise. So a few weeks later I ordered a 2023 (with Super Cruise) and the factory picked it up immediately. So they had plenty of SuperCruise for 2023’s but none for 2022’s!? I think they had just shut down production of 2022’s and didn’t want to tell anyone.
I canceled my orders after talking to a few dealerships. While there is still a select chip shortage it all pertains to ICE vehicles. GM’s focus is EV’s. Every dealership owner I spoke to told me they are being pushed to sell EV’s. Since the dealers can’t get answers from GM on existing orders I canceled. The gov and industries’ push to all EV’s is going to come back to bite them.
I mean I don’t know either, but the folks trying to order EV’s have the same issues. I think GM wants to blame everyone but GM. Most other manufacturers have quit using the “chip shortage” line. Maybe they should switch to “the dog ate your order papers” or something.
This is the first time in my life I have ever ordered a car from a name manufacturer. Looks to be at least an 11 month wait may 19th 2022 to April 2023 and then they changed the order on me besides.
If I buy gm in the future it will be for a vehicle ready to go on the lot. I didn’t think car companies would devolve into clown worlds.
By the way this is for an ev so we can’t get them either it isn’t just ice’s.
Update 2 months later……
The main reason GM can get away with this is that a few of their new EVs are compelling – if they were available on the lot…. I Could have bought a 2023 DEBUT Lyriq ev by now, but the dealership 500 miles away wants a $25,000 adder onto the very nicely priced $59,000 vehicle – available only because someone could not come up with the final cash required. So I’m sticking with my original order from 5/19/22…
Of course I tried back in 2021 to order it, but they only accepted a relatively few orders, so I was not even allowed to begin to order a vehicle until 11 months ago. And then months later they ran out of blue paint which was optional, but since black is also a ‘premium’ color now, i have to pay a premium for a color I do not want.
The BIGGER ISSUE of course, is that GM is coming out with photo shopped brochures and gets people to order the vehicles, whether ICE or EV… But they have incompetents running production….
If all they can make is Stripped models – they should at least turn those out…..
My next vehicle – while still driving the LYRIQ by then hopefully, will be a KIA EV9 – which is a large Telluride sized vehicle – and while I don’t need 3 rows of seats at least the last 2 rows can be folded down for bigger storage….
They also have a standard configuration with not too much on it – namely around a 200 hp motor, and a 99 kwh battery -so it has the range I need and adequate power, with a minimum of pretty useless gobbledygook which complicates production…. If this car was available a year ago, and I knew it was going to take over a year to purchase my Lyriq – I would not be buying Cadillac any longer.
Since GM market share has been falling off a Cliff – including grade F treatment of longtime GM buyers, the amount of ill-will Mary Barra is accomplishing with her ‘Woke’ attitudes are FINALLY filtering down to production incompetence. Obviously GM needs radical change at the top to prevent another bankruptcy, – in this case – the Trend is not their Friend.
Update on my truck (because I said I would). It’s been awhile. I ordered in August 2022, truck made last week of September 2022, completed with build sheet and window sticker sent to me October 6, 2022. Sat at plant until December 12th and then moved 40 miles to rail head. It’s been at the rail head until April 19, 2022 and then put on a train. The dealer called today to say they should receive it from the car hauler delivering from local rail on Monday. I’ll pick it up in the next couple of weeks when convenient. So, from build completion of October 6, 2022 until May 2, 2023 the truck has been completed and waiting for delivery. Who knows what the real story is because everyone is blaming the railroad and related logistics. FOR SURE, GM HAS BEEN REALLY LOUSY WITH COMMUNICATING BOTH TO THE DEALER AND TO ME.
Local dealers where I live have been receiving similar models from Mexico for about a month for inventory. The truck I ordered is a Denali 1500 with Reserve and Technology packages and that seems to be rarer and made in Indiana. Still, the truck has been made for seven months but not delivered. I’m sure I’ll love the truck but next time (if there’s a next time) I’ll buy from dealer inventory and take my chances on price. I did get a good deal on the truck so there’s that.
I assume this is a 2023 Denali? So you lost 6-7 months of not driving it while it sat at the factory and rail depreciating. It’s obvious GM has significant issues internally and with its supply chain and the customer suffers. Hopefully, it will arrive in May and it meets your expectations. Enjoy.
Ordered 2024 Denali ultimate 2500 4×4, with trailering pkg. On August 2 2023. I was told 4 to 6 weeks. It.hasnt even been to the next level. I’ve been a 40 year GM buyer. I’ll give it another 2 Weeks. Thinking about Dodge for the first time since I’ve been driving. What the he’ll is GM thinking?????
