2023 Corvette Z06 In Action At Laguna Seca Raceway: Video

Chevy recently hosted a media event at Laguna Seca raceway to show off its latest performance offering: the 2023 Corvette Z06. This event allowed media and influencers to go for a hot lap around the southern California circuit in the passenger seat of the new Z06 with a pro driver around the wheel, giving them a taste of the mid-engine supercar’s incredible acceleration and handling.

Among those invited to the event was Corvette-obsessed YouTuber Speed Phenom, who attached a GoPro camera to the helmet of former Corvette Racing driver Ron Fellows as he took the 2023 Corvette Z06 around Laguna Seca for a hot lap. While Fellows is not pushing the vehicle as hard as he can (this is only a promotional event, after all) it’s clear from the footage that the Z06 has an incredible amount of grip – a large portion of it coming from the optional Z07 aerodynamics package. Fellows enters the high-speed Turn 6 left-hander at nearly 80 mph in this video, for example, and enters the daunting Corkscrew at roughly 60 mph.

This video also features footage taken from Speed Phenom’s perspective as he rode shotgun in the passenger seat beside Fellows. He and Fellows also engage in a short, fun conversation about the Z06’s high-pitched exhaust note, which may be refreshing to see for Corvette Racing fans that remember the Canadian’s impressive on-track exploits for the GM factory race team nearly 20 years ago.

  1. That exhaust note does not fit a Corvette.

  2. Well, I’m impressed…the Mighty Z06 “does sound the part” (finally!) of a true race bred machine! So if we by pass all of the hoopla about this car not being physically available (yet) to the public and in the hands of a select few that can, of course show us the sounds and fury of the new 5.5 Liter Z06 engine (it’s about freaking time) in what appears to be an actual “production” (off the assembly line) car with options. So now, we will once again wait, patiently for more video’s and news from Chevrolet about this car. I still would love to hear some “facts and figures” about the true capabilities of this car, say from Chevy about the true lap times around “The Ring” in Germany, where GM engineers have been running this beast for some time now and to my way of thinking (and I hope I’m wrong) the lap times might not actually be as good as they were hoping for, otherwise you’d think that Chevy would be bragging loudly about how quick this car is around that track.
Oh well…time will tell, in the meantime it’s great to see the Mighty Z06 actually out on a race track where it surely looks and sounds the part of what the Corvette has been destined to be since the V8 engine was installed in 1955 and actually hit the race tracks in 1956. It’s been a long time coming, lets all hope that this car finally can “kick ass and take names”, I’m sure the Corvette engineers have given this car everything they’ve got and proud as hell to “unleash the beast”! Bravo Chevy!

  3. I was very excited to read each and every piece of Z06 news, when I thought I would be able to purchase one.
Now that I got my deposit back, and gave up hope of ever owning one, not so interested in Z06 news.
Kinda bummed, love my 2021 C8.
