Many motorists have purchased a second-hand vehicle and realized the previous owner had misplaced the original owner manual that came with the car, while countless others have lost the manual themselves. This isn’t such a problem these days, as manuals for many of the most popular vehicles can be easily pulled up online, but having a physical manual to reference can be more convenient than relying on modern-day technology. Thankfully there’s a way for GM vehicle owners to easily order OEM replacement manuals for their vehicle – even if they own a vehicle from discontinued brands like Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Hummer and Saturn.
Helm Incorporated is a Michigan-based retailer of factory-authorized automotive and motorcycle service and owner manuals. The company’s website allows GM vehicle owners, or owners of many other popular vehicle makes for that matter, to search for and purchase an OEM-authored replacement owner’s manual for their vehicle. Helm Inc. has manuals for a large number of GM vehicles from its current Buick, Cadillac, Chevy and GMC brands, as well as discontinued brands like Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Hummer, Saturn and Saab. Even classic GM cars are covered, like early model Corvettes and Camaros, for example.
We should point out that owners of newer GM vehicles from its current brands can also reference the owner’s manual online via the Buick, Chevy, Cadillac and GMC websites. There’s therefore little need to replace the physical manual if it’s been lost, but as we mentioned above, some vehicle owners prefer to have a hard copy of the manual to reference. Having a physical manual can also provide some peace of mind, as they may be unable to access the online manual if they are in an area with patchy cell service.

I know about Helm, Inc for over 50 years. I bought the Service Manual for my Dad’s 1967 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme in 1970. Their original name was Lansing Lithographers. And now they sell manuals for almost any car and truck brand, even imports.
The current shop manual for the Acadia is close to $500.
Current price for 2019 Colorado chassis manual is also close to $500. I think I paid about $60 for a new 1994 S10 chassis manual. After the GM bankruptcy and closing of many models and dealerships, GM had to sweeten the profit pie for remaining dealers by making much repair and service work accessible by dealers only.
I just bought a 2024 Tahoe hundred and five thousand dollar vehicle. And there is no hard copy owners manual . They advised me l can purchase it from Helm for $66.00 cdn . No more Gm for me.
Is Chilton still in business? The last repair manual I bought was $25, maybe less.
At some point in the last 10 years, they decided to give up on printed DIY books to concentrate on professional online databases, so they licensed the name to Haynes for DIY books.
When I was a teenager back in the mid-1970’s, there was the Grand-Daddy of them all:
“MOTOR’S AUTO REPAIR MANUAL”
A hard-cover book that showed the front grill of automobiles to distinguish between the years for each model car. I used to love to sit down and look through its pages. It had so many interesting diagrams and drawings of automotive parts that it kept me fascinated for hours. It was also like a time machine for me to see the vehicles of the 1940’s and 1950’s. I also seem to remember it wasn’t cheap to get either. But it set the standard for an automotive repair manual.
My owners manual refers many easily replaced items back to the dealership. Really? I don’t think so. I won’t be going back there any time soon. Did GM never hear of a thing called the internet?
This is 2022, not 2002…..Save it as a pdf. Keep a copy on your computer and phone.
So,again Chevrolet does not have a better idea! I just purchased a new 2023 colorado z-71 and did not receive a owners’ manual! You need to go on the computer and down load it! I cannot believe when you spend almost 50,000 thousand dollars, you do not get a hard copy owners’ manual! Come on chevy, get your crap together!
I agree I just got a 2500 gmc and got this ridiculous 100 page book that doesn’t have 1/10th of the info on the truck. I paid 60k for it and have to download the 440 page owners manual then go to a computer when I need to access it. Just ridiculous!!! My daughter bought a new Subaru and didn’t have the issue
I just bought a new 2024 Silverado 2500 HD LTZ., 8/11/23. It does not have an owners manual. That sucks. No reason why Chevy can’t include one. All I got is a booklet about essential operation and safety information. After spending 68K bucks there should be one. I’m not happy.
I hear you, I just purchased a new Colorado z-71 and got not a owners manual either, just a skinny one full of all the safety b.s.! I called Chevy help online and got a goofball informing me that Chevy was helping the environment by not issuing one! I called b.s. and he gave me a please do not swear or cuss or I will have to hang up! So……..he hung up on me when I called it b.s.! Anyway I totally agree with you on the matter of spending much money on a truck/vehicle andthey cannot even give a proper owners’ manual-They just tell you to use the on board computer or look it up online! So, fifty dollars latter I purchased one from Helm online. Guess it was a money maker all around except for consumer me! Shame on Chevrolet-not a good way to keep a return buyer!
I checked Helm but they are sold out at this time. So I depend on the internet to get info for now.
You can find it on the onboard computer? Tell me how please.
I am sorry……It is very annoying and I know it! I can believe they are sold out because of good old Chevy shafting us! They should have more being published because many of us want the hard copy owners’ manual!!! Do you hear us, Chevy!!! As far as the onboard computer being told to me……….heck if I know! That is what the goofball from Chevy help-line told me……heck l am still trying to learn all the damned electronic crap as is! Lol I do know you can download all of the hard copy from the internet, but that is going to take much computer paper! Again, thanks for nothing Chevy……you owe me fifty bucks! Right, like that is going to happen! Lol
And get this! On the Helm website it says it is a factory installed manual. LOL! It is BS for sure. As a retired 3rd generation GM employee I am calling you out. I’ve been buying Chevy all my life and if known that I would have to spend 50 bucks on a manual it would have been a deal breaker for me. Can’t even use employee discount for parts and accessories. Again. BS! GM get your sh!t together!
I have a 2024 gmc sierra and had to order the owner’s manual. I had a 1985 gmc before and with how bad that truck was I swore I would never buy another one. The owners manual was just the start of the nightmare that is this truck. I bought Toyotas since the first gmc and had nothing but good luck with them. I restore antique cars so I wanted a heavier duty truck so I purchased the gmc hd. I got it in June and it has been in the shop 5 times now and had a month long stint with the gm rep. I am now waiting on back ordered parts for the ac controls and now the radio is starting to act up. I’m about to take a loss and go back to Toyota.
Bought a new 2024 Silverado 2500 HD LTZ and there’s no owners manual with it. I ordered one from Helm. For the price of the truck it should have one. All I got was a get to know you vehicle book.
I just purchased a 2024 Tahoe Premier (68 thousand plus) and like others there is no hard copy of owners manual… The dinky book in there does not give you the information that you really like to know and see a diagram and pictures of different things concerning the vehicle. The owners manual that Helm has to sell is it like the manual that use to come in the vehicle with alot of pictures and illustrations? If so how do you purchase one.. The address for ordering and ect. . Yep sad to pay that much money for a vehicle with such a dinky book that comes with it..
I also just picked up a 2024 Silverado and no owners manual in the truck. GM is saving dollars on this, but might lose customers. What do we do if there is no phone connection?
Not impressed, all my previous Silverados came with an owners manual. When I spent over $60,000 on a new truck, I assumed it would include an owners manual. I know there is one on the Chevrolet APP however, I would like to have one in the vehicle. The next owner that I sell the truck to would probably like to look at it as well. I like my truck, but if you’re trying to save money on owner manuals, I bet there is a better way.
I have been unable to even purchase an owners manual for my 2024 GMC Sierra EV over two months after purchase.Helm sells one in French but not in English. My need is complicated by not receiving the glove box guides that were missing from my new vehicle. Even the screen references to refer to the provides guides and manual in your glovebox. Ridiculous..
