Anyone interested in owning an old-school pickup stuffed with modern amenities and technology should look no further than Icon. Based out of Los Angeles, California, Icon offers a host of impressive packages and builds designed to bring the old-school cool of a vintage truck into the modern era in terms of comfort, convenience, and performance. We previously took a look at Icon’s gorgeous 1950 Chevy 3100 TR 10 Old School Edition, and now, we’re taking a ride in the Icon Thriftmaster TR 11 New School Edition.
With Icon co-founder Jonathan Ward behind the wheel, this video provides a look at all the goodies the Icon Thriftmaster TR 11 has to offer. This particular Chevy is a 1952 model, and sports chrome and stainless trim bits added on top of a head-turning vintage blue, two-stage finish and Glasurit paint job.
The details are numerous, and include a machined Icon lizard badge on the front grille, as well as complementary badging on the tailgate on the side of the hood. Rolling in the corners are Icon’s forged aluminum vintage style wheels, while the rear boasts a classy walnut bed with a semi-gloss finish.
Leather upholstery adorns the interior, with more chrome plating for things like the seat decline hardware and door hardware. The Icon Thriftmaster TR 11 also comes with power door locks and keyless remote, plus power window treatment and a modern Pioneer stereo as well.
Providing the motivation is General Motors’ 6.2L V8 LS3 E-Rod crate engine, producing about 440 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. A Tremec six-speed manual transmission feeds the rear axle.
In terms of handling and drivability, the Icon Thriftmaster TR 11 comes with modern rack-and-pinion steerin<iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/pzXFq4QR0pA” title=”YouTube video player” frameborder=”0″ allow=”accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture” allowfullscreen></iframe>g, and a four-wheel independent suspension setup developed by Art Morrison. A set of Brembo brakes are standard.
“It’s literally a modern sports car masquerading as a ‘40s, ’50s pickup,” Ward states.
