We noted something peculiar when working on our recently Encore GX visual comparison, specifically as it relates to the bodyside molding on one particular 2020 Buick Encore GX trim level and color combination.
Follow along with us here: the 2020 Encore GX comes standard with black body side molding, or what some might refer to as a two-tone design or black body side cladding. However, when the Sport Touring (ST) package is ordered, the black molding treatment is replaced by body-color elements. The distinction is simple enough.
Trim: | Preferred | Preferred with ST Package | Select | Select with ST Package | Essence | Essence with ST Package | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Vehicle color: | Any | Any | Any | Any | Any except for White Frost Tricoat | White Frost Tricoat | Any |
Body side molding: | Black | Body color | Black | Body color | Black | Anderson Silver | Body color |
But there’s one noteworthy exception, and it only applies to the range-topping Encore GX Essence models finished in White Frost Tricoat and not equipped with the ST package. This particular trim and color combination equips the model with Anderson Silver lower body accents, rather than the black moldings it would normally get. The Anderson Gray accents can be best described as being a shiny champagne-like color.
Pricing
The base price of the 2020 Encore GX is $25,095. Adding the ST package raises it by $650 to $25,745. Notably, the ST package includes the following content:
- Body-color rocker moldings
- Bodyside body-color moldings
- Custom grille with Red accents
- 18-inch Medium Android High Gloss wheels with Dark Android High Gloss inserts (RQJ)
- Front and rear sport bumpers with Red accents
- Sport Touring badge
Opting for the the range-topping Essence raises the starting price to $29,495, and White Frost Tricoat paint is an additional $1,095. As such, the unique Anderson Silver-wearing White Frost Tricoat Encore GX Essence model costs at least $30,590. The same model equipped with the ST package climbs to $31,240. Opting for the ST package on the range-topping Encore GX Essence replaces the Anderson Silver moldings with body-color units.

Comments
I think it looks better this way, but jeez the price!
This is a huge improvement and it needs to go to Cadillac immediately. The crappy looking black plastic on the XT4 and XT5 look cheap. This adds a more upscale look and IMO very much improves the appearance.
And on more body colors than white (but you probably meant that).
The only things worse than all the flat black wheel arches are all the fascias full of shiny black plastic.
