The all-new 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe debuted back in December, introducing a completely re-engineered fifth generation for the nameplate. Along with new styling, a redesigned interior, fresh underpinnings, and the latest tech features, the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe also offers new dimensions, including new exterior dimensions, interior dimensions, and cargo dimensions. As such, we’re breaking down all the new sizing specs in the following GM Authority Dimensional Brief.
Exterior Dimensions
Outside, the all-new Tahoe looks quite a bit different from the outgoing fourth-gen model, and it’s got bigger exterior dimensions to match. In fact, the 2021 Tahoe is larger in just about every single way compared to the preceding model.
The wheelbase is now nearly five inches longer, with the latest GM T1 vehicle architecture providing the bones. The overall length is also 6.8 inches longer, while the overall width is half an inch wider and the overall height is 1.5 inches taller.
The only thing smaller are the front and rear track widths, which are 0.2 inches and 0.4 inches narrower, respectively.

Rear Track (mm) | 1734 | 1744 | -10 |
Interior Dimensions
Interestingly, the Tahoe’s larger exterior dimensions don’t translate into across-the-board gains in interior space. Of course, there are some notable increases – for example, first row shoulder room is up 1.45 inches, second row legroom is up 3 inches, third row shoulder room is up 1.15 inches, and third row legroom is up a massive 10.1 inches. However, there are losses as well, with less headroom and less legroom for the first row.
The rest of the interior room specs are relatively close to those of the outgoing Chevrolet Tahoe.

Cargo Dimensions
The full-size SUV segment is obviously heavily focused on cargo room, and in that respect, the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe delivers with gains across the board. The new Tahoe now delivers an extra 28.2 cubic feet behind the first row, an extra 21 cubic feet behind the second row, and an extra 10.2 cubic feet behind the third row.
That last bit is particularly impressive, given the previous generation offered just 15.3 cubic feet of space behind the third row, making the new model’s gain of 10.2 cubic feet a sizable 67 percent increase!
Dimension | 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe | Previous-Gen Tahoe | +/- 2021 Tahoe |

Cargo Volume Behind First Row (cu. ft.) | 122.9 | 94.7 | +28.2 |

Before there was no reason to get the Tahoe if you needed three rows of seating and space as it was smaller on the inside then the Traverse, so the logical decision was the Suburban. Now the new Tahoe is an elegant and worthy choice.
Good job GM.
Did they fix the awful driver’s seat? Gen 3 was vastly superior to the 2015>.
There was a time in motor history when bigger was better… I’d say it lives on….
That new Tahoe looks outstanding. Looks well done from the exterior.
how about curb weight ?
Since the second row now slides, I wonder what position(s) the measurements are taken at…
Might the second row be moved back for the second row increase and moved forward for the increased third row?
6 inches too long. Previous gen could barely fit in my garage, but this one is definitely not going in.
I own a 2017 Tahoe, very nice and very good suv except when I start to enter a street from a stop, the engine is very sluggish with the gas pedal opened to the floor for approximately 4-5 seconds it feels just like the engine is flooding but then it clears and takes off like you would expect with the gas to the floor, and yes I’ve tried just touching the petal and every other way. I’ve had it at the dealership many times with the same results. A pat on the back as they walk me out and tell me that this is normal and no vehicle is perfect. My reply is for $70,000.00+ it should be dam close! I wonder has this been fixed, a large number of owner report the same problem. Test drive several days they sometimes do it repeatedly and other times go for day with no problem. Mine is parked in my garage 15,000 miles, I’m afraid to drive it after a number of close calls when entering highways. I’m not trying to give the Tahoe a bad name, I’ve driven them sense they were introduced, I’m 69 years old and starting from 16 I’ve never driven anything except a GM product. Purchased a new one ever 2 to 3 years and loved them all except this one. G.M. has had a big problem with this for a few years (read the GM chat rooms) I hope with this complete upgrade it is fixed, if so I will purchase a new one if not well I have looked at the Fords and they look good.
