A new GM van recall has been issued in the United States for 91,399 units of the 2019 Chevrolet Express and 2019 GMC Savana vans over an electrical system issue.
The defect: the seatbelt-unfastened warning light in these vehicles will not illuminate for approximately five seconds after the ignition is moved to the “on” or “start” position. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, “Occupant Crash Protection.”
The hazards:Â NHTSA posits that without prompting, vehicle occupants may neglect to wear their seat belt, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
Affected vehicles:
- 2019 Chevrolet Express
- 2019 GMC Savana
Number of vehicles affected: 91,399 located in the United States. Currently, no current recall of this nature exists for the vans sold in the rest of North America.
The fix: as part of the GM van recall, GM will reprogram the vehicle instrument panel cluster, free of charge.
Owners should: vehicle drivers and passengers should, as always, wear their seat belts, regardless of instrument cluster light functionality. Owners can contact their local dealerships to request free recall repairs.

Driving a rental 2019 Chevy van and the side airbags deployed while driving down the highway. Luckily with 7 passengers we were able to get out of traffic and to safety. There was nothing that hit the van to cause this
