The limit is always being pushed by the engineers over at Lingenfelter Performance (LPE) by giving it all they have in the tank, literally. Recently, the performance company broke their previous record of their most powerful engine (1,435 hp) by a measurable amount.
With the addition of direct fuel injectors and direct injection pump on a GenV LT4 engine, the horsepower bar has been raised to 1,508 hp and 1,335 lb-ft of torque. This is an additional 73 hp and 118 lb-ft from before. All done without the use of auxiliary fueling, which is the process of using an additional fuel tank other than the one directly installed to the engine. The fact they produced this many ponies without an outside fuel source made this record even more deserving of all the hype. Though we should note that even though LPE notes they used an LT4 for the test, which is supercharged, we definitely see the help of some turbos in the video.
The direct injection system can be used in the following applications:
- 2014-2018 C7 Corvette (LT1)
- 2015-2018 C7 Z06 Corvette (LT4)
- 2016-2018 Camaro SS (LT1)
- 2016-2018 CTS-V (LT4)
- 2017-2018 Camaro ZL1 (LT4)
- 2014-2018 Silverado and Sierra with 5.3L L83 and 6.2L L86 engines
- 2015-2018 Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon and Escalade with 5.3L L83 and 6.2L L86 engines
Check out the video posted above to see the numbers for yourself and also get a closer look of what Lingenfelter Performance had rigged up. The high-flow direct injection fuel kit (part number L700046914) can be acquired for $6,395.
