The GM Authority Take
The Trax took first place in its segment in September, beating out the Honda HR-V (up 17 percent to 8,024 units) in second and its own platform mate, the Buick Encore (up 13 percent to 8,262 units), Toyota C-HR (3,017 units) and Nissan Juke (down 42 percent to 545 units).
We attribute the Trax’s noteworthy September sales performance to widespread availability of the model at the retail level, generous manufacturer incentives, and strong demand for the model at the retail level caused by the ongoing change in consumer buying dynamics where car buyers are favoring SUVs/CUVs over other vehicle types, such as sedans and coupes.
Going forward, we expect the newfound competition – especially the Honda HR-V, Toyota CH-R as well as the upcoming Nissan Juke Sport, Ford EcoSport, and Hyundai Kona – to continue posing a threat to the Trax, until Chevy overhauls (redesigns and reengineers) the model.

About Chevrolet Trax
The Chevrolet Trax is a subcompact crossover. It slots below the Equinox as Chevrolet’s smallest CUV and rides on the GM Gamma 2 platform shared with the Chevrolet Sonic/Aveo and Buick Encore. The model was Chevrolet’s first offering in the subcompact (B segment) crossover space and the second (after the Nissan Juke) to launch in its segment in the U.S. market.
Having launched for the 2015 model year in the U.S., the Trax received a refresh for the 2017 model year that consisted of all-new front and rear fascias, the replacement of the LTZ trim by the new range-topping Premier model, revised interior, a new infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and more. The 2018 Chevy Trax represents the fourth model year of the first-generation Trax and receives several changes including three new exterior colors, a new Trax Redline Edition model, and several equipment-level changes.
The Trax is built at two assembly plants — the GM Bupyeong factory operated by GM Korea and the GM San Luis Potosi factory operated by GM Mexico. It is called the Chevrolet Tracker in some markets, including South America and Russia.

Chevrolet’s Trax and it’s brother the Buick Encore are great little CUV; but it would be interesting if General Motors did something like offer a Trax in Hummer-guise, a convertible or even a 2-door variant to add some excitement.
Encore is great but it isn’t exactly luxurious and sort of brings down Buick as a premium Brand reminding me of 1990s Chrysler than Lexus or Audi.
Audi and Lexus hace nothing on that space. Perhaps the Audi Q3… but it’s still ten thousand more from a starting price point.
Buick should I be fighting with both of those brands but sadly it isn’t. GM is limiting it and holding it back.
Well I get that Encore is a ‘kinda’ luxury brand and, compared to Trax, is definitely more kinda luxurious.
What I’d like to see is current base Encore become the Trax. It does ride better and have better sound deadening. Then I’d like to see the Encore get a nicer interior, amazing sound system, all the safety tech, and way better (Volt?) mileage.
