As Opel begins new life under France’s PSA Groupe, the German brand may lose yet another high-profile executive. A new report from German business publication, Handelsblatt, claims Opel’s chief marketing officer, Tina Mueller, will depart the brand in October.
Automotive News Europe reached out to Opel, but the brand did not comment on Mueller’s status. However, her departure would be a major one. She’s been awarded numerous times for her marketing, advertising and branding efforts at Opel. With a background in cosmetics, Mueller launched paramount marketing campaigns to restore luster to Opel’s battered image in 2013. Since then, Opel made strides in consumer perceptions.
Mueller would follow Karl-Thomas Neumann as the second major departure under PSA Groupe. Neumann was formerly Opel’s CEO.

At last – some good news for a change!
In Germany, Opel has for decades been known for unreliable rust buckets. Mention Opel in the same breath as VW, or Audi and Germans will think of you as a comedian. I don’t know what is meant by consumer perceptions, but Opel market share certainly has not increased over there since 2013.
I know Opel have had an image problem but I’m not sure that it’s quite as bad as you describe. Opel’s market share in Germany has increased slightly this year. Most comedians are still making jokes about the diesel con-artists at VW and Audi.
How has the Opel Insignia been received in Germany and Europe since 2008? Has it been viewed as a big improvement?
Tina Müller came to OPEL and worked well. Their ideas were creative and very good for OPEL and GM in Europe. A single “mistake” by Tina Müller Therefore the black OPEL flags must be replaced by yellow with silver names of the models. Example would be like in the Cascada. THANKS Tina 4all.
I am German / Bayer and know OPEL very well. OPEL are and have always been very good cars. Just! OPEL was not as much sought after as many of the Germans as GM, Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Porsche. The long-term quality of OPEL is better! Rust is only found at OPEL whose owners are not necessarily clean people. The market shares of German manufacturers in Germany are actually 90% company and government cars. This is controlled politically. OPEL as a US subsidiary or PSA subsidiary is not included here with orders. Thus, market shares in Germany are only fakes and not real.
I own privately OPEL and GM cars and am very satisfied.
My OPEL / GM:
Insignia OPC 325HP Sedan 6-speed switch in white
Cascada 200HP 6-speed switch in white
Corsa C 1.0 58HP in black
Vectra B i500 195HP “Irmscher 1-te Edition” in dark blue
Omega A 2.6L R6 150HP in Silver

What’s your own privately-paid GM cars?
Hi Herman – Unlike you I am not a fan of Tina Muller at all, I think she & her sidekick KTN did Opel a lot of damage, still Muller can go play with kittens all day long now! lol
Mine is a Vauxhall Adam S 1.4Turbo 6-speed in white with black roof, leather & climate pack. That’s it, just the one little car!
