Opel Manta Oil Leak Causes Major Pileup On Nürburgring: Video

Clean racing is not a guarantee, no matter how skilled racers may be. The simplest mishaps can cause major consequences, evidenced in the video here.

An Opel Manta caused the wreck seen in the video above. The race car broke down on the Nürburgring and left an unfortunate surprise for other racers that approached the corner: an oil slick. As the Manta was towed away, it left fluids on the track, which a maintenance truck attempted to fix with a binder. That would not be enough.

The slick causes absolute chaos after what seems to be a Renault spins out of control, which leads to a secondary crash involving a Porsche and a Volkswagen. Things calm down for a moment until another set of cars approaches too quickly and another Porsche joins the massive wreck.

It’s an unfortunate situation for the drivers, but as we said in our opening, no one knows what a track day will bring, especially an outing at the Nürburgring.

  1. This took place on September 23 during the 7th of 9 races of the 2017 VLN Endurance Championship.

This was a four hour race with about 150 cars on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

For what “VLN” means, look it up on en.wikipedia.org
