The First Car Conor McGregor Owned Was An Opel Astra

If you were one of the lucky few to have managed to successfully order the Conor McGregor-Floyd Mayweather fight last night on pay-per-view without complete and total failure from your service provider, congratulations. It was a novelty boxing match that was far more entertaining than expected, though with a result that just about everybody saw coming. The undefeated Mayweather was able to weather an early storm from the much larger Irishman, and poured on flurries of strikes and combinations in later rounds as McGregor’s stamina deteriorated.

The fight ended with a 10th round referee stoppage, as McGregor’s exhaustion hindered his ability to properly defend himself against who is considered to be the best pound-for-pound boxer ever. Despite the loss, UFC champion Conor McGregor walked home with a guaranteed $30 million purse, while “Money” Mayweather took a guaranteed $100 million. Total payouts are not yet known.

With such lofty prize money, we found it relatable that the 29-year-old Conor McGregor – once on welfare – drove a humble Opel Astra not too long ago, according to an interview before the blockbuster fight took place.

GM Authoritarians at home may recall that Vauxhall models are sold instead of Opels throughout the United Kingdom. But McGregor isn’t from the UK, he’s from Ireland, and they’ll have none of that plucky British branding there.
