Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback Announced For China

General Motors previously committed to introducing 20 new or refreshed products by the year 2020 in China. Today, another vehicle can be checked off the list.

Chevrolet announced the next-generation Cruze hatchback would launch in China next month, sharing the same platform as its North American cousin. Chinese consumers should be delighted to know the Cruze hatchback reveals nearly 26 cubic feet of cargo space upon lifting the rear hatch. With the seats folded flat, that figure jumps to 47 cubic feet.

As for power, Chevrolet will offer a familiar 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. However, three transmission options will be available including a seven-speed dual clutch, a six-speed automatic with start-stop system and a traditional six-speed manual transmission.

The Chevrolet Cruze has been a monumental success since its inception. Last year alone, 208,718 Cruzes were delivered worldwide.

  1. Surprised that it will be competing with Verano (Astra) hatch. Cruze is the more attractive of the two.
Also surprised that there is no Ctuze hatch SUV variant. Once upon a time we had coupe and wagon varients & today a SUV version seems to be an apt addition.

      Umm… Trax?

      1. Trax is on a different platform, and it’s crap. I mean raising Cruze hatch two inches, adding cladding and all wheel drive like, say, 500X.
Retuning Cruze would save money and maybe allow for a really successful family off autos requiring less promo.

  2. The Cruze sold a lot more than 208,718 last year. The Cruze is bigger in China than the U.S. and is sold in 115 countries throughout the world. It is GM’s best selling car world-wide. I don’t have the data, but it is closer to 900,000 global units from 11 assembly plants.

  3. I wonder if it will be imported from Mexico, or does China only sell domestic built models? Trump should push for a 20% on China built auto’s if they don’t start ,importing auto’s from the rest of the world.
