Opel GT Concept Earns Design Study 2016 Award

It’s safe to say the Opel GT concept was one of the biggest stars of the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Cementing that statement is the GT’s latest award.

The German Design Council, also organizer of the coveted Automotive Brand Award, has named the Opel GT concept as the recipient for the Design Study 2016 award.

“The GT Concept is a dream car that takes Opel’s philosophy ‘sculptural artistry meets German precision’ to the next level. The feedback has been simply overwhelming. My team and I are proud that our sports car study is being honored as the best concept car of 2016 with the Automotive Brand Award,” said Mark Adams.

The GT concept was chosen for the “Concepts Best of Best” award, while the Opel Astra K and OnStar earned their own recognition.

The Astra was selected as recipient for “Best of Best” event, highlighting “Mission Astra,” the name of the Astra launch event for Opel dealers, which was located in the Spanish Sierra Nevada.

“We always want to offer our dealers something different and that is why we came up with a really unusual idea for the launch of the new Astra. With a tent-city next to a racetrack, which resembled a lunar landscape, we created an event that money actually cannot buy” said Opel Chief Marketing Officer, Tina Müller.

Finally, Opel OnStar picked up an award in the “Future Mobility & Parts” category, along with Opel’s in-depth mobile configurator.

Now, the only question it ask is how many awards does it take to make the GT concept a reality?

    1. As far as I know, it wasn’t designed by the European team directly, but by the Holden design team in Australia.

      1. To my knowledge Holden had nothing to do with the GT Concept, directly or indirectly, however I wouldn’t imagine Holden Design are overworked at the moment!
