RJ Lopez Tops TA Practice As Trans Am Series Returns To Detroit

RJ Lopez led the Trans Am Series’ first practice session in Detroit for 15 years in his No. 06 Optica Lopez/Republica Brewing Chevrolet Corvette with a time of 1:37.024. In TA2, Adam Andretti was quickest with a fast lap of 01:39.733 in his ECC / Anchor Bolt & Screw/Dodge Challenger.

It was an all-General Motors top three in TA, with Amy Ruman turning in a 1:38.271 in her McNichols Co. Corvette to slot in behind Lopez. Doug Peterson’s lap of 1:38.815 in his Cadillac CTS­-V was the third fastest time of the day.

In TA2, Kyle Marcelli was the sole Chevy in the top three , posting a lap of 1:39.915 in his MBRP Performance Exhaust Camaro to slot in behind Andretti. Third fastest was Dodge’s Louis­-Philippe Montour with a time of 1:40.837.

Finally, in Trans Am’s production based TA4 class, Michigan’s Craig Capaldi was quickest with a lap of 1:44.118 in his Wolverine Bronze./Ford Performance Ford Mustang. Another Michigan native, Todd Napieralski, was second in his Tremec/SKF/Backstreet Performance Camaro with a lap of 1:44.455. Ernie Francis Jr rounded out the top three with a time of 1:44.481 in his BetaTools/Liquid Performance Camaro.
