Chevy Volt sales totaled 1,865 units during March 2016 in the United States, representing a 192 percent year-over-year growth and the sixth consecutive month of increased Volt sales.
Like last month, the increase is nationwide availability of the 2017 Chevy Volt. By comparison, availability of the 2016 Volt was limited to 11 states — California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

In addition, Volt sales jumped in Canada, spiking 261 percent to 246 units.

I don’t think anyone should be surprised by this information. The new Volt is better looking than the previous generation and looks more like your typical compact vehicle versus the hideous blobs that the Leaf and Prius are. The more people are learning of its capabilities to surpass GM and government mileage ratings the more interesting the Volt has become. The Volt is no penalty box and drives great.
While sales figures for the 2016 GEN 2 Chevrolet Volt are up, it’s still obvious that there’s still a disconnect between the car buying public with what the Chevy Volt is; thus, Chevy may think about a ‘real people’ commercial for the Volt and break down what makes the car special because compare with the Prius, people just don’t seem to understand the Volt very well.
Even some of our dealer sales people don’t understand the Volt……someone I know stopped into a GM dealer in a non-metro and was asked how they got there by dealership personnel.
It is not surprising that sales are way up as the current gen. Volt is better in all ways than the car it replaces plus the higher availability. The Volt though should be compared with the Prius since it is hybrid versus the Leaf that is a pure electric.
When is Consumer Reports going to review this gen Volt? Seems like it’s taking a while. If it’s favorable it could drive some new sales.
No surprise as the leaf blower and prius minus are Fugly. At least the Volt has some style where you wouldn’t be embarrassed to be seen in it.
