Global sales of Cadillac vehicles totaled 20,625 units in January 2016, a 2.2 percent increase on a year-over-year basis. GM’s prestige luxury automotive brand states that it is now entering a period of key product launches that are planned to further accelerate the sales and reinforce the rising stature of the brand.
Cadillac will launch the all-new 2016 CT6 full-size flagship sedan during the first quarter of 2016. It will be closely followed by the 2017 XT5 midsize luxury crossover, which will enter the luxury market’s strongest segment, by sales volume.
“Cadillac’s global expansion is building momentum, particularly now as we prepare to launch two all-new products,” said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen. “Newcomers to the brand continue to express surprise and delight at the dramatically elevated product substance in the new generation of Cadillac products, resulting in them selecting well-equipped, high-end models. This drives up transaction prices, a powerful proof-point underscoring the rapidly rising prestige of the Cadillac brand.”

Average Transaction Prices
According the J.D. Power, the average transaction price of a new Cadillac topped $55,000 in the U.S. in January, the highest among full-line luxury brands.
Strong demand in the domestic market has driven inventories lower as the brand prepares to launch the CT6 and XT5 in the first quarter of 2016.
Comments
Overall it is positive that there was a year over year volume increase along with a higher ATP per unit sold, however the significant sales volume decline of the Escalade and ATS is concerning.
Entering only it’s 2nd full year of sale and in a booming SUV/crossover market the Escalade should still be humming along quite nicely. Cadillac needs to advertise the model more and not just rely on it’s reputation and newness to sell it.
As for the ATS, although it has not been a strong volume model in the US, it has still done quite well world wide especially in China so it surprises me that it is down at all.
Hopefully the NYIAS will debut a refreshed version of the ATS and introduce an Escalade V-Sport model.
Once again, this information doesn’t tell the full story. If I remember the analysis of US sales in January, retail sales were down 27+ percent from last year. By default a fairly large number of vehicles were dumped in the fleet category.
Not all that positive in my view!
The retail sales reduction is concerning especially since GM’s recent push is to increase retail sales and rely less on fleet and rental sales.
Although NA continues to underperform there are positive signs from other markets such as China, Canada and Mexico.
It’s time for Cadillac to do something with the Escalade . When this model was first introduced they couldn’t keep up with demand and now it has watched its sales fall . It’s as if it has filled all the orders for people that wanted one and thats it . We see Chevy and GMC coming out with different variations of their full size pickups , it may be time for Cadillac to do the same . Maybe a ” midnight edition ” or something along those lines . A V-series would for sure be a seller .
It must be troubling to Cadillac that a 6 year old SUV out sold the Escalade, ELR , ATS and CTS combined . And the XTS that was just a filler because Cadillac needed something to fill the hole created when the DTS went away saw an uptick in sales .
Sure ATP’s are up but that isn’t going to help pay the bills . The SRX is doing that , for now .
I hope the market recieves the CT6 and XT5 on a good note . And one that will carry on more than just the first year of production where people will buy them just because they are “new” .
Agree that there is a lot that can be done to build the Escalade brand including special editions, V-Sport model and a more luxurious interior trim package.
Oddly enough full sized SUV sales are waning for all manufacturers so it is not just indicative of Cadillac.
I do not think that it is troubling Cadillac to much that SRX sales are vastly outstripping most of the rest of the brand combined as that has always been the case more or less.
The SRX is in the sweet spot for the luxury crossover boom which is why the XT5 replacement is so important.
There is no reason why the XT5 will not do well in the market. As for the CT6 I am not sure mostly because I am still puzzled why the ATS and CTS did not better despite their minimal shortcomings.
I think Cadillac sedans should be replaced by more crossovers in the future….im surprised that the XTS out sold the Escalade….in 5 years when Cadillac is selling 7 crossovers I believe sedan sells will flop much further.
The XTS sales volume does not surprise me since the majority are being sold in China where they are used as chauffeur driven vehicles. Vehicles with large displacement engines like in the Escalade do not do was well there due to registration taxes plus the Escalade is not assembled in China so it faces import tariffs making buying one there extremely expensive.
Sedans ‘flopping’ is not a GM problem but rather and industry wide phenomenon as there has been a dramatic shift to SUV/crossovers.
FCA has announced that they are essentially dropping the 200 and the Dart due to flagging demand. Recently Ford as stated they are introducing more SUV’s to meet future demand.
When traditionally car only manufacturers like Bentley and Maserati are getting into the SUV game you know that is where the sales/money has moved to.
Sedans are not going to be in as much demand in the foreseeable future.
I have a feeling that sedans are going to be gone in 10-15 years…as crossovers could become bigger to serve there purposes more and sedan would be replace by the current crossover status as having a higher riding height and more head room and interior room than sedans…also driver better and had better fuel economy….as crossovers become better in the future they could make lighter weight crossovers that have greater riding and handling and fuel economy than todays sedans….the reason people are going from sedans to crossovers is that CUVs have higher riding heights, better visability, and more room….and in 10 years sedans will lose it popularity to CUVs.. why would they build something that wont sell much for example the ATS and CTS are not selling and by the time the XT7 and XT8 arrives the XTS will be gone….so the XTS is selling right now because the big CUVs hasn’t arrived yet…
