There are a few things we’re not huge fans of surrounding the 2016 Cadillac CT6, but the pros outweigh the cons. Today, however, we thought we’d highlight one of the nifty features gracing the CT6.
The 2016 Cadillac CT6 utilizes a hydroscopic lens coating on the Rear Camera Mirror system to ensure safe keeping of the lens itself, but Cadillac will soon add a washing system for the lens ensure a clear view at all times. The Rear Camera Mirror Washer, which routes washer fluid to the rear, sprays on command to remove mud, dust, snow, ice and moisture from either water covered roads or the morning dew.
Thus, drivers can always enjoy a clean view when reversing or checking surroundings with the supplementary safety system.
Though the washer feature was announced with the Cadillac CT6, it did not debut for the 2016 Cadillac CT6 nor the 2017 Cadillac CT6. Instead, it made its debut on the 2018 Cadillac CT6.

Nice feature but completely expected for a vehicle occupying this price range.
It’s tied into the rear camera mirror, which this article fails to mention. You might expect this feature, but in fact it only comes with the newest technology that Cadillac has invented.
Keeping your backup camera clean is a convenience. Being able to use your rear “mirror” is essential.
Just another thing to go wrong and for the dealers to make money.
Premium pricing calls for premium options and features. Are you saying that Cadillac should not try to sell vehicles in this segment because things might break down the road?
If GM expected it to break down, then it would be at the behest of GM’s engineers to make the damn best rear camera washer system so that it less likely to break down if ever.
The idea of “don’t bother if it could break down” is antithetical to the idea a luxury product; the effortless convenience that Cadillac should embody. It is those little things that when they work as engineered make the car that much more impressionable upon the owner, and more memorable in their minds.
You may snigger at the idea of a rear camera washer system, but what’s a luxury for the CT6 owner today will be the common feature of tomorrows Cruze. I’ve had to clean the rear camera lens of my car when it was coated with salt dust and streaked with rain water, and had never really considered such a system, let alone hydrophobic coatings.
The very fact it’s offered as a remedy to such a problem illustrates why it is important that Cadillac offer it, and why such a system should be engineered to be the best; The best IS what Cadillac is expected to offer.
Is the whole line heated so won’t freeze in the winter?
A nice unexpected item that really does solve a problem . You would think that some engineer out there would figure out a way to put that little camera behind the rear glass . or inside the lens of the back-up lights .
My Terrain has the Forward Collision Alert System and that camera is inside the truck behind the rear view mirror .
Anything is better than trying to remember to wipe it off ( when the weather is nasty ) with my thumb before going somewhere .
how this worke. some videos pleas. Today, there are cameras hidden behind a car emblem and clean.
I would have been impressed if I was not driving a C450 AMG. The rear camera on my car, and I gather most Mercedes, is not exposed, and is only deployed whenever the driver engage reverse, so even when the rear of the car is covered in snow or dirt, the rear camera view is crystal clear. Stand behind my car and you would think there is no camera, engage reverse, and it appears in an instant. A simple solution that I didn’t know about until I bought the car, and not available on not even the new BMW 7 series
To be honest with all the cars now featuring this option it should be standard before someone in a CUV that can not park with mirrors backs into me.
I have considered ways to protect the lens to where it will remain in covered in winter weather. I think there has to be a better way to protect these.
They will need to find a way if they plan to eliminate rear view mirrors. As of now mirrors tend to remain clean.
I have pondered to mount these on the roof higher up and farther forward with a wide angle lens.
It’s simple Scott, the rear view camera does not need to be exposed to the elements unless the car is in reverse
I think this camera is for the rear view mirror which is engaged while the car is in drive.
My Ford Explorer has this. 2016.
