Chevrolet snapped a mid-season winless streak last week, with Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick giving the manufacturer its 750th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series win at Dover. Now the automaker is hoping to carry that momentum to Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend as the series moves on to the first race of the second round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
Based on its past performances at Charlotte, one would be forgiven for being confident in Chevy’s ability to win this weekend’s Bank of America 500. Chevrolet drivers and teams have earned a total of 43 wins at the track, and the automaker also has six drivers in the Chase – more than any other manufacturer.
Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Kevin Harvick, Kurt Busch, Ryan Newman and Martin Truex, Jr. will fight for the first guaranteed spot in the third round of the Chase under the lights Saturday. Practice for the race will be held during the day, adding an extra level of difficulty to a track that is already known for being challenging in regards to tire and fuel strategies.
The Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway will go this Saturday at 7 p.m., ET. Click here for a full schedule of this weekend’s events, and here for the current Chase for the Sprint Cup grid.
