Opel has made a huge splash with its marketing efforts as of late, and that’s not just us being optimistic.
Tina Müller, the brand’s Chief Marketing Officer, has won the Brand Manager of the Year award at the Automotive Brand Contest 2015 for her efforts with a series of new ad campaigns that have helped ramped up company awareness.
“With the ‘Umparken im Kopf’ campaign, Tina Müller has succeeded in getting into people’s minds and helping turn the Opel brand towards a success path and even though she is not an automotive expert, she has done this in record-breaking time,” said Andrej Kupetz, General Manager of the German Design Council. “Naming Tina Müller Brand Manager of the Year was almost an inevitable consequence.”
Unnecessary burn aside, Kupetz has a point. The now-decorated exec joined Opel in August 2013 and since then she’s been instrumental in creating a series of wide-reaching campaigns like ‘Umparken im Kopf’, ‘The new OH!’ and the newest spot– one of our favorites yet – the “Astra Quantum Leap.”
“I am very pleased to receive this award. It is also an award for my entire team. They have supported me in every way and have been extremely dedicated. This prize is a great recognition of our hard work,” said the exec. “Umparken im Kopf” helped successfully us tear down the virtual walls that previously stood between Opel and many customers. Our sales and marketing share are growing as a result.”
Elsewhere, Opel’s main ad agency, Scholz & Friends, was named Agency of the Year for its work on the ‘Umparken’ campaign and the Opel event ‘Corsa Karl and Choupette’, which saw Opel collaborate with designer Karl Lagerfeld, was named Event of the Year.
Comment
This current Opel team will go on to lead GM globally.
Mark Adams will probably end up running design and Muller has a bright future, too.
