The Holden Sandman sits as a cult-classic for Holden enthusiasts. Originally based on the Holden Kingswood panel van, the Sandman became a massive success at the time, with heavy ties to Aussie surf culture.
But, CarsGuide reports the name will be returning to a van once again in the form of the Opel Vivaro.
Opel showed off the Vivaro Surf Edition during the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, a curious place to reveal such a visualization. Germany doesn’t exactly come to mind when thinking, “surf’s up!”
The Vivaro Surf Edition graced Frankfurt with a custom-swirled paint job, built in roof racks to hold surfboards and waterproof floorboards for beach gear.
A new commercial van is certainly in the plans for Holden, and sourcing it from Opel seems like more of a certainty than ever, considering one-third of the brand’s lineup will come from the brand.
Holden dug into its storied past to revive the Sandman name earlier this year with the VF Holden Commodore Sandman edition. The Commodore Sandman features throwback exterior graphics and optional shag floormats and seat inserts. Though, fans say it isn’t a true representation to apply the name to a Commodore Ute or Sportwagon, as the original was a panel van.
But, have no fear, a true successor seems imminent. It just may be a bit boxier than locals remember.

Now there is a question no one ever asked.
I wonder if the Radio plays Rhineland girls or Surfin GER.
This might have worked better with Snow Boards. Just saying as it goes with the territory.
