Shane Van Gisbergen has quite the track record of showing off after earning a victory in the V8 Supercars series. The New Zealand native has no problem putting on a smoke show for spectators, despite calls to keep the rubber fresh for another day’s race.
Motoring dug back into the archives as the V8 Supercars series heads back into Sydney Motorsports Park where, one year ago, Van Gisbergen decided to do a little drifting on the misty, slick track.
After taking first place, Van Gisbergen decided to bury the accelerator a bit to get his VF Commodore racer sideways through the corners but, the best part? Second- and third-place winners Chaz Mostert and Jamie Whincup decided to follow suit, swinging their cars sideways behind Van Gisbergen, creating an excellent tandem show of V8 Supercar power.
This sliding comes after some close calls in the race, as announcers remind viewers Van Gisbergen almost had a mishap on the slick track. But, that doesn’t stop him from throwing in a little freestyle. Who knows, maybe we’ll be treated to more of the same this year.
