Action Express Racing will be looking to replicate its performance at Road America from last year when the IMSA TUDOR United Sportscar Championship heads to the famous road course in Elkhart Lake, WI this weekend. Action Express drivers João Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi took the overall victory at the track in 2014, however their teammates Dane Cameron and Eric Curran may make things harder on them this year.
Cameron and Curran both took victories at Road America in 2014 before they were racing a Corvette Daytona Protoype for Action Express. Cameron gave Turner Motorsports a victory at Road Amerca driving a BMW Z4 GT3 before winning the drivers’ championship later that year, and Curran scored a win in a Continental Tire Series Camaro.
Both Cameron and Curran have other strong Road America performances under their belt in addition to their 2014 wins. Cameron put his Sahlen’s protoype racer on pole there in 2013 and quickly pulled away from the field when the race went green, but was later forced to retire with engine trouble.
The entire Action Express crew will also have to keep an eye out for Visit Florida Racing’s Richard Westbrook and Michael Valiante at Road America, who currently lead the TUDOR drivers’ championship in their Corvette DP. Barbosa and Fittipaldi trail the duo by just seven points and are hoping to get the jump on them at Road America.
“You always have extra confidence when you return to a race as the defending champion of the event, but you still have to execute as a driver and as a team,” Fittipaldi said. “A win at Road America would provide an excellent spring board to the rest of the season and help us greatly in our efforts to claim a second IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.”
FOX will air the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase live this Sunday at 3:00 p.m. ET. All TUDOR USCC will take to the track at once, so you can simultaneously stay up to date on the progress of both the Corvette DPs and Corvette Racing.
