The IMSA Series is pretty unique in its own right because it allows manufacturers to take nearly stock, high-performance machines and take them to the track in a competitive manner. It allows OEMs to see what works, and what doesn’t, for their street car programs. And the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28.R is no different from that.
Speed Society invites us on and in-depth look at the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28.R racer, as they visit Mantella Autosport to have a look at two of the Camaro Z/28.R being run in the 2015 IMSA series. The other two belong to Stevenson Motorsport, rounding out the only four that exist in the world in these specifications.
Speaking of specifications, though, IMSA actually requires a rev limit on engines competing in the series, Therefore, the LS7 7.0-liter V8 actually is less playful than the 2015 Camaro Z/28 you can order at your local Chevy dealer. Still, they make for highly competitive vehicles in the field, and the drivers say they are a joy to go Aston Martin hunting with.
Have a look at the deep dive down below.
