Building on the high-strength steel message for the Silverado pickup truck, Chevrolet puts real people (not actors) into a material testing facility (a room with no windows or doors) and shows them two cages: one made from high-strength steel, and the other from aluminum.
Then, seemingly out of nowhere, The Bowtie lets a hungry grizzly bear into the room — making the men pick a cage in which to hide (and thereby save their lives). Do they end up picking the cage made of high-strength steel, or aluminum?
The spot illustrates the difference between the Chevy Silverado’s high-strength steel construction, and — though not by name — the 2015 (and newer) Ford F-150’s reliance on aluminum.

Now that’s funny!
Another point that is missed by a lot of publications is that for had to use a full aluminum body just to get in the ballpark against the gm trucks in terms of curb weight
Well as the proud owner of a 2015 Z-51 Corvette-This ad make me feel really great…what with the Vetts aluminum chassis! Just in case it fails me in an accident-I’ll get this article to my lawyer!
And this is called misinformation. And at the same time, GM are making preparations to move the next generation pick-up to full aluminium. 6 years behind Ford.
GM has never made a claim of an all aluminum truck. It is only speculation. I suspect with the Omega being s mix of materials the Truck will also use this path.
Miss information. Well Ford did lose 700 pounds but they seldom really made it cleat they were only 700 pounds lighter than their own over weight truck and not just gaining a small advantage over the Chevy.
I know GM is doing this for the humor and marketing. They do have some clear advantages and I wish they would also market these.
GM could easily point out that they have engineered the trucks to be lighter with out the need for Aluminum. That way if they do use it later they can just say we engineered it to be light and now we are making it lighter.
To be honest GM dropped the ball in not marketing their trucks being lighter when Fords were total pigs.
But again the stereo type is bigger and heavier is better with many people as this video points out. We saw the same thing with the older larger cars. Yet when they tool a 09 Malibu and 59 Impala and crashed them head on the Malibu held up and smashed into the back seat of the 59 Impala. So much for stereo types.
