A little friendly competition never hurt anyone, right? That’s the case here at this track day at Fontana Raceway. Today, we have a 2015 C7 Corvette Z06 and a Porsche 911 GT3 fighting for supremacy to overtake one another, but there’s a catch.
The driver of the 2015 Z06 has two half-days worth of track experience under his belt, and has an instructor onboard with him. The 911 GT3 driver is a professional race car driver, left nameless. The 2015 Corvette Z06 goes to work with its Performance Data Recording system capturing the action as it unfolds.
It’s easy to tell these two are duking it out the entire time, being waved on by fellow drivers on the track. But if you watch, you can also see the 911 GT3 is at its limits, with minor slips occurring. That allows the 2015 Z06 to get up close, and eventually overtake the pro driver for the lead. A victory for the home team. And it shows how confidence-inspiring the C7 Corvette Z06 is, too.

this is comedy not HEAD TO HEAD. some different people drvi sunday race. who race who just drive circuit. this is head to head.
That’s what you got out of this? That it was a battle? Even I, a devout Corvette fan with no track experience, can recognize that the Z06 driver is a major asshole and generally not that good. He had to cut the last corner just to get by the Porsche and then shouted at the Porsche like it had been blocking his way the whole time. Yeah… a real battle that.
Really the 8-speed Trans of the Z06 is faster than the Porsche´s PDK??
head to head
what shifting speed is vette 8 speed and porch pdk ? i dont remember. i remeber at vette 8 speed was verry good shifting speed
I been waiting to hear about Chevy’s Nurburgring ring time all week, they said they were going to speak about it soon.. Sure is taking long I been earnestly waiting about it..
Lol, wow. This asshat was schooled at every turn by the Porsche. He was passed on the bank every rare lap that he late apex and managed a jackass pass.
That automatic transmission is really good. He never touched the paddles behind the steering wheel.
This is embarrassing owners of Z06s everywhere. 1) the driver of the z06 can’t drive. He lets the traction control and the automatic transmission do everything and just mashes the trottle. If he tried this in a real race car with no computer assistance he’s going to wind up in the wall on fire. 2) the Gt3 driver is clearly not a professional ‘unnamed’ driver, lol. 3) the z06 had Hoosier tires and still couldn’t run with the gt3 in corners where as the gt3 still had street tires 4) the driving instructor looks like he is desperately trying to get the idiot driver to follow his instructions while simultaneously preparing for death or serious injury during every turn.
Is the author of this article blind or just plain stupid? This took place at a hpde, novice group, where point bys are mandatory. If it weren’t for the nannies in the car he would have spun in the first corner. Even corvette owners are outraged at this morons driving. Check the corvette forums. Guy is dangerous and author is pedaling stupidity.
I see a novice driver learning his car, the risks of this type of sporting and someone learning to enjoy a hobby, if that is case.
Everyone started somewhere. Think Tesla should stopped when they told him ‘it’ll never work’?
