Opel Gets Weird, Hires Internet Cartoonist Marty Cooper To Promote New Corsa

We’ve seen our fair share of weird Opel marketing, but the company’s new collaboration with cartoonist Marty Cooper – aka Hombre McSteez – is definitely one of the most peculiar bits of GM marketing we’ve ever seen.

Cooper is known for his bizarre videos, which are usually made with the help of some foil, a black marker, and an iPhone. He draws characters/creatures on the foil and superimposes them into the video.

He’s garnered millions of hits on YouTube and one of his videos has raked in more than 4.6-million views in the past ten months.

Opel says the spot below – which shows one of Cooper’s figures pushing a new Opel Corsa into a parking spot–portrays “just how easy Advanced Park Assist is to use.”

The spots are all meant for the German market and admittedly we don’t “sprechen sie Deutsch.” Still, we can’t quite wrap arounds heads around Opel’s bizarre marketing move.

To all those who can speak German, please feel free to enlighten us in the comments.

A far-too-tall Ontarian who likes to focus on the business end of the auto industry, in part because he's too tall to safely swap cogs in a Corvette Stingray.
