Chevrolet has expanded the availability of the Spark EV to retail customers in Canada for the 2016 model year. The emissions-free hatchback has been available to Canadian fleet buyers for 2 years now, however retail consumers in Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia will soon be able to travel in environmentally friendly silence, too.
The Spark EV is described by Chevy as “an all-electric urban mini-car designed for fun driving and easy ownership.” The model uses no gasoline whatsoever, receiving power from an 18.4-kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor with 327 lb-ft of torque. This helps it accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km/h for you Canucks) in a brisk 7.2 seconds. It also has an estimated total range of around 82 miles (131 km).
“We’re expanding our electric vehicle offerings to our customers by offering the 2016 Spark EV for retail sales in the growing EV markets here in Quebec as well as in Ontario and BC,” said Chris Hay, Chevrolet regional director. “For city residents whose transportation needs can be met with an all-electric vehicle, Spark EV builds on Chevrolet’s proven electric motor and battery development programs from the Chevrolet Volt.”
When the model reaches consumers in Canada, it will come equipped with OnStar’s standard 4G LTE and built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, along with Chevy’s MyLink infotainment system. Also included will be the recently approved SAE combo charger for DC fast charging, capable of charging 80 percent of the battery in just 20 minutes.
Chevrolet says details on pricing will be available at a later date.

When will it be sold nation wide? Will the 2017 Bolt replace it?
Why is this available in Canada for retail before nationally in the US? GM did accept bailout money from taxpayers.
The Canadian market buys more hatchbacks and hybrids/EVs, especially Vancouver and Montreal. They also accepted Canadian taxpayer money too, as a side note.
A year later and we still don’t have them in Vancouver. I’ve just searched all the Chevy dealerships and there aren’t any actually listed for sale. WTF?
