2016 Cadillac ATS Coupe Gets New 3.6L LGX V6 Engine, 8-Speed Transmission, New Colors And More

Originally launched for the 2015 model year, the Cadillac ATS Coupe has been fairly well received consumers, and very well received by the media. For the 2016 model year, Cadillac is bringing a few welcome changes to its compact sport-luxury coupe that will make it even more competitive. The changes and updates are very similar to those made to the 2016 ATS Sedan.

To start, the 2016 Cadillac ATS Coupe loses three exterior colors while gaining three extra-cost hues:

Deleted Colors

  • Majestic Plum Metallic
  • Black Diamond Tricoat
  • Opulent Blue Metallic

New Colors

  • Cocoa Bronze Metallic
  • Moonstone Metallic
  • Stellar Black Metallic

More notably, the all-new, more powerful and more efficient 3.6L V6 LGX engine with a new engine control system featuring auto start/stop replaces the outgoing 3.6L V6 LFX. In addition, the 6-speed automatic transmission is replaced by GM’s new 8-speed automatic transmission.

Inside, the Cadillac User Experience (CUE) infotainment system sees a bevy of updates that include improved system speed and performance, Bluetooth Media browsing, faster and more accurate map loading and voice command execution, and more. In addition, the 2016 Cadillac ATS Coupe’s CUE system does away with the SD card slot. The changes are rounded out by a series of changes to active safety packages, including revisions to the Safety and Security Package, the Advanced Security Package, the Driver Awareness Package, and the Driver Assist Package.

    1. Agree that these are good improvements and should help sales. I am still baffled as to why ATS sales have not done better overall.

      1. That is a question many ask and it is not one you can pin on one thing.

One of the biggest factors is Cadillac is moving from what they were to what they need to be. This leaves many traditional buyers out and makes you work for new buyers. With the marketing or lack of they have had the word on the new product was just not getting out.

I think now that the new marketing programs have started you will see more attention given to all their lines.

I just got a new Autoweek with an outstanding ad for the ATSV coupe. The photography is the best I have seen for the car as it shows it more as it appears in person as a lower sleeker car than many of the GM press photo’s,

GM has had issues with photography for a while and it hurts when people are looking at cars on the web.
As we have seen here that many hate some of the new products till they see them in person and find that the photography was not all that complimentary.

Just look at the photo here and find the new ATSV ad and you will see what I mean.

This is a case where the car is really better than most photos.

  6. And still no venter/air conditioned front seats…. Id like to know how you decide what options to put into the car and to not not to? This could be an interesting topic!

  7. Gm authority’s engine guide has the lgx listed with 355hp, that’s a typo as it actually makes 335hp. Clearly it’s confusing people
