Kelley Blue Book has announced the winners of its lowest five-year cost to own awards, and among the winners were three Buicks. For the second year running Buick took a handful of the spots, with KBB awarding the Verano, Encore and Enclave as best entry-level luxury vehicle, luxury compact SUV/crossover and luxury full-size SUV/crossover.
Categories factored into the judging include lowest projected depreciation, expected fuel costs, finance and insurance fees, maintenance and repair costs, and state registration fees. KBB estimates the Verano, Encore and Enclave will save owners substantially more in the long run over its competitors, breaking it down with the following table:
Vehicle Category | Model | Model Average Difference to Vehicle Category Average |
Entry-Level Luxury Car | Buick Verano | ($9,236) |
Luxury Compact SUV/Crossover | Buick Encore | ($14,370) |
Luxury Full-size SUV/Crossover | Buick Enclave | ($17,509)
|
KBB develops their results through a sophisticated algorithm with third-party data from owners and consumers. The Buicks rung in at substantially higher savings than any other competitor in the category.
Buick is banking big on the compact Encore specifically, as it continues to ride out the niche it occupies before an onslaught of similarly sized competitors arrive in showrooms for this model year. If there’s one thing its competitors can’t claim, though, it’s the substantial amount of dollars saved over the first five years of ownership.
