If you were American, living in the 1960s and shopping around for a luxury car, there’s a good chance you’d end up in a Cadillac showroom staring down the infinitely long hood of an Eldorado or a Fleetwood. If you bought one, you’d find it had an impossibly comfortable bench seat, a floaty ride and immeasurable amounts of chrome trim, making it the perfect car for leisurely cruises through town.
Over 15 years ago, Ron Dean bought a 1964 Cadillac Deville and used it to transport his family and friends in comfort, style and luxury. Eventually he got bored with his sedate strolls in the drop-top two-door, pulled out the motor and dropped a 7.6-liter Chevrolet Big Block engine in its place, which was topped off with a Weiand 6-71 supercharger for good measure.
Host of Big Muscle, Mike Musto, recently took a spin in Dean’s blown Deville along the coast in California. It’s the perfect place for a cruise in a drop top Caddy, but instead of taking a poky drive and drinking in the beautiful scenery like a typical vintage Caddy owner might, Musto lets the huge Big Block loose, mostly on the Deville’s rear tires. Check it out below.
