2015 Corvette Z06 Gets A Little Sideways Thanks To Top Gear: Video

Love ’em or hate ’em (most of you seem to be in the love category), Top Gear has changed the way we view automobiles in America. Previously we could rely on Car and Driver or Motor Trend to give us the skinny on what’s new from Detroit and elsewhere, but then came along that limey TV show that brought humor and accents to it all.

Truth be told, they don’t tend to hold Yank cars in high regard, which made their selection of the 2015 Corvette Z06 for “Muscle Car of the Year” as somewhat of a surprise. But, really, should it be? Zero to 60 in 3 seconds flat should answer that question. Or, in their own words:

Think it’s fair to say it’s going to crush anything less than a 918, P1 or LaFerrari. Its combination of relentless power, unshakeable chassis – with all its clever technology that works with you – and vast brakes is unbeatable at the moment. And that’s just on the track. On the road, it’s just as much fun. Dial back the chassis, flip off the roof panel – a first for all Z06s – and it’ll cruise along in comfort. It’s available with an eight-speed automatic or the seven-speed manual, now with uprated rev matching (this is being implemented across the whole Corvette range) that now makes it properly seamless.

  1. I think the opinion of Top Gear is excessive on the car’s performance.

Increase the pressure and expectations towards the Corvette

But I hope they are right

  2. Top gear folks never fudge anything even though they do seam to knock american cars to excess sometimes so when the picked corvette for their muscle car of the year you know they really mean what they say. I love their show just because they do poke fun at vehicles and the world needs more comedy. Keep up the good work top gear.

  3. Ok, I worked for Chevy dealers and have been a Chevy enthusiast all my life so don’t take this the wrong way when I mention the four letter word that starts with a F. But when Jeremy Clarkson resorted to prying away the vents of a (hear it is folks) a Ford F150, and claiming how cheap interiors are in American Cars, you know how biases they are. Funny how they often praise the Voxhall, aka, Opel, aka, GM. Now can someone tell the nasty Brits that the LS motor is built in Detroit and not Australia. Can someone tell these (effectively said) British Cocks that holden and like Mercedes AMG. Love Top Gear, can’t wait till they take the Z06 C7 around the track and have to put the car on top of the board.

  4. Lets face it the bias has always run both ways.

How many years have we over looked the lack of development in many American cars including the Corvette but yet they also have failed to recognize often the many issues we see on Euro and British cars over the years.

Lets face it the British cars no longer exist as most all names are now owned buy companies from other countries. Even the Rolls starts life in Germany with a German engine.

England is the home of the prince of Darkness Lucas and his son British Leyland. Not something many should be proud of.

We all have had our faults and bias. Just take pride that we are now starting to produce complete cars that even they have to admit are done right. Convince your toughest critics and you can win the world.

The Cadillac people need to learn from what the Corvette team has already accomplished.

Also keep in mind a lot of what the guys say are just for comic effect. Just as we make fun of the British here they like to do the same there. But if you really watch the show much they mock each other like the three stooges for fun and effect. With them no one is safe. It is called entertainment.
