Cadillac’s sales may be lackluster as of late, but the American luxury brand isn’t giving up on its commitment to establish itself as a leader in the luxury car segment. Autoblog reports that an inside source at Cadillac revealed that the new LTS flagship sedan is set to debut at the 2015 New York Auto Show.
With an exterior design inspired by the well-received Elmiraj concept, it seems the team developing the LTS was caught off-guard by the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The same insider told Autoblog that the car “set the competitive bar much higher than anticipated,” adding that he “didn’t think [Mercedes-Benz] still had it in them to build such a car.”
Nonetheless, the automotive website said its insider insists the LTS will “meet the challenge of the new Mercedes [S-Class].” Fortunately, it seems we only have to wait until April to see what Cadillac’s new flagship will offer luxury car customers.

Just don’t call it LTS. It’s worse than XTS and ATS.
I TOTALLY agree. It should have a “real” name (Omega would be fine) that can become the sedan equivalent of Escalade.
Agreed! Use Latin names or name each car after an American city.to.reinforce the Americanism of the brand.
They could even create a scheme in which the first letter denotes segment: A segment=Atlanta; D segment= Detroit or Dallas.
Cadillac needs a unique naming system that actually means something.
“Agreed! Use Latin names or name each car after an American city.to.reinforce the Americanism of the brand.”
Latin? That’s about as far from “Americanism” as it gets.
The name ‘Cadillac’ is french, a language that actually made it to North America and has influenced cultures here, especially in and around the Great Lakes region. Using Latin names would disgrace and distance Cadillac from being American to being moreover European; closer to Italian. If Cadillac was to reuse names, they should be French.
If you’re going to name the cars after American cities, that’s no more creative that naming them after navy-classes.
The nomenclature should stay locked where it is; easily translatable to a global audience and without any preconceived baggage that can be connected to Cadillac’s dark period. The LTS will compliment and support Cadillac’s existing range without any reliance on ‘traditional names’ as the LTS won’t be anything like a “traditional big Caddy”.
You forget that French is a Latin language, because of the Roman invaders. So if Cadillac uses French names, it is still Latin.
French is one of the 4 major Romance languages. Its origin may be derived from Latin, but it is wholly distinct from Latin. French is not Latin.
The English language is ripe with loan words taken wholesale from the French language, but you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone willing to call English a Romance language.
Well it’s about damn time. This better be good, the new s-class is actually something worth looking at, so Cadillac better bring something at least close.
Totally agree. This better be good as the competition never sleeps. Looks like this show may be good for GM.
I’m officially marking April 2015 on my calendar just for this special moment!!! I can’t help but think. What in the world was that Cadillac rep thinking when he stated “I didn’t think Mercedes-Benz still had it in them to build such a vehicle”?!!! Either way it goes to show who, without a shadow of a doubt, is the leader in this segment. And I’m glad Cadillac decided to benchmark this German masterpiece in the development of what will become America’s first true, high profile luxury sedan!!! The LTS doesn’t have to beat the S-Class, just try to match it on a level of prestige, luxury and performance.
P.S. I too prefer a name other than LTS; but that’s just a small request. 😉 Fleetwood? Deville? Ciel anyone?
Since the LTS is larger than the XTS….I wounder if the 2016 Buick Lacrosse is going to be bigger or smaller than the current Lacrosse.
The Lacrosse isn’t moving to the Omega platform, so its going to be exactly the same.
the lacrosse needs to grow in size for better trunk space. the trunk is the size of a compact cars trunk because the cabin took up the cargo space unless the car would go longer.
The Lacrosse needs to be bigger…things are suppost to get better…not stay the same.
Who says a bigger Lacrosse will be better?
In fact, why does Buick even need the Lacrosse? There’s nothing the Lacrosse can’t do that the XTS can’t do, or that the Impala can’t be equipped and sold at a lower price.
Why does GM even need Buick? Why not cut the redundant GMC and Buick out?
Buick is the new Mercury.
Your insistence on a future Lacrosse is disgusting and immature. Every time GM’s large cars are discussed, you have to chime in with many non-factual opinion posts about about the marginalized and redundant Lacrosse. What is your problem, you boorish fool?
ether move the Lacrosse up in size and quality… or have something above the Lacrosse…the Lacrosse is not good enough for a flagship….the impala is better looking than the Lacrosse and in some ways the impala is better than the Lacrosse…chevy and buick are in a pickle with each other. the Lacrosse is just a high-end impala but smaller…therefore chevy and buick are too close.
better mean bigger as whale….I just doen’t buy that a premium flagship would a cramped up mid-sizer with rideculss blindspots…..buicks flagship needs to be better than that….2016 Buick Lacrosse….a sleeker longer four-door coupe styled sedan….ah yes.
oh… so you like half crap cars like the current Lacrosse.
You don’t get it. It’s not about the Lacrosse. It’s about the redundancy of Buick.
I know GM can do and definitely an awesome car
Please do not stand in the beauty of the Concept and nothing more; go out to production¡¡

If you are going to use names you need new names and American names that elude to exotic things.
Elmirage was very creative and they should go for something similar. Take American names and recreate them into a Cadillac version. Just avoid the ones that make it sound like a Truck like Cheyenne or Scottdale.
Lajolla or other California names would be interesting. Though I would avoid Longbeach. LOL!
Cadillac has truly made me proud to be an owner. My V wagon is still freakin’ awesome And yet, I’m pumped to lay my hands on the new ATS-V & a CTS-V when they arrive. Hell, just the regular ATS and the V Sport are GREAT cars. I could barely imagine what’s in store for the flagship car!
But now someone (anyone!) inside Cadillac says he didn’t think Mercedes “still had it in them to build such a car(?)” Come ON!! When Mercedes quit Maybach, they told us they were going to make the S Class their best. If that’s your target, MAKE the car that IS the Standard of the World and make us proud. You have the talent in residence NOW. Make it; we’ll be there for you.
If the ATS and CTS sets the standard for chassis dynamics and style, I would not be surprised if the LTS sets the bar higher than the ATS and CTS in their respective class.
Thank God that the ATS, CTS, XTS and Escalade are not half baked like the previous Cadillacs before them!
I would name it Fleetwood. Seriously.
Why do you people keep moaning about the names?
If Cadillac had built the LTS in the 50’s they wouldn’t have called it the Fleetwood, they would have called it the Series 75 or the 60S.
Short alphanumeric names are Cadillac’s heritage, and they’re in style now, so why on earth would Cadillac go against the grain?
Actually Cadillac’s flagship sedan in the 50’s and 60’s did have Fleetwood in the name. It was the Fleetwood 60 Special.
I think I like Scott
This great Cadillac should have a different name; not only 3 letters
“Majeste” “Grandeur” or “Le’Galant” would be very distinctive from the rest of Cadillac and other luxury cars

Based on the spy photos of prototypes, I’m expecting to be underwhelmed by this car. A stretched CTS with a few ElMiraj and Ciel cues thrown at it to try and make it “pop”? That’s my prediction. That said, it could still work? But if and only if they don’t go crazy on the pricing? A new S class starts at $94K, 7 series at $75K, this car needs to start in the mid-upper $60’s and be very well equipped even at that level.
You have to keep in mind that Cadillac isn’t the value brand anymore. Starting price should be around $80,000 for an extremely equipped standard model. A V-Sport and/or V should come later…
Eh, I gotta disagree with you, I think the pricing should match BMW blow for blow.
Ok, if you start at $80 large, then fully equipped you are right at $100K, how many do you intend to actually retail for that kind of $$$$? Yes, you will have very high ATP’s, which execs love to sound off about, but don’t you need to actually have some sales volume? Even well established, long running cars like the Lexus LS only sells about 650 cars per month here?
That’s because cars like the LS, S, 7 are low volume.
I wouldn’t care if GM sold 100 LTS units a month. An $80K LTS keeps the car exclusive and squarely in the heart of the full-size segment. Heck, the first gen LTS might even be a money loser and never get GM a dime, but it allows GM to utilize Cadillac’s name to grow stronger and meet higher consumer expectations. A second gen LTS would build upon the clout and status that the first LTS earns for GM.
Remember, GM is trying to undo over 50 years of mediocrity. It’s not going to be swift or easy, and every inch of Cadillac’s credibility will be hard fought. The first gen CTS was worked enough to allow Cadillac to build 2 more generations of CTS, and every successive generation of CTS will have to outdo the last. Same deal with the SRX, ATS, and the forthcoming LTS.
Yes, ATP is more important than unit sales for ANY luxury product. That’s what GM had to find out the hard way when they realized that G-body Deville couldn’t hold a candle to the S-class, nor could the Deville command the price that an S-class could. It certainly wasn’t built like a luxury product. it didn’t perform like one, and it was priced like one.
I agree with the majority of posts , GM needs to give their ” flagship ” car a better name than LTS . It needs a name that when people say ” I just bought a Cadillac ………………. ! Like telling someone you have an Escalade people know what you are talking about , and what it means to own one ( the best of the best ) . I also hope that what ever the name is the decal ( logo ) is in not in block letters but in script like the Cadillac logo is . Just think it adds more class ,( looks better ) . For GM to play in the same field as an S -class it MUST come out the gate ” recall free ” . And if GM is listening give it something better than CUE , which most auto enthusiasts give a bad name ’cause of all of its problems . If your’e going to spend that much cash for this car wounldn’t you want something better than what you can get in a ATS etc,, for much less .
If you agreed with the majority, you wouldn’t have made that post.
The LTS nameplate will fit with the existing nomenclature. People already know what a CTS is and aren’t scratching their head in bewilderment. 12 years on, people know that the CTS is know that is meant by stating “I just bought a Cadillac CTS”. The same will apply to the LTS in due time.
Same deal with script. To keep it uniform with the rest of the Cadillac range, the Cadillac name will be in cursive script and the nameplate in block. Block letting is more legible anyway, especially when you’re trying to build a presence in a part of the world where the use of the Latin Alphabet is almost always seen in block letting rather than in a cursive script, like in China.
Consider the first C in the Cadillac script versus the block C in CTS. The cursive C could easily be mistaken as a lower-case E by someone who is learning the Latin Alphabet. The block C in CTS isn’t going to be mistaken as anything other than a C, irrespective of where they live or what languages they know.
The above is only an example using the CTS. The LTS will follow suit. To do otherwise would alienate it from Cadillacs range; alienating th car just to satisfy a few who won’t ever own an LTS or similar.
Please GM, don’t price this thing like you have the brand equity that MB does, because you don’t. Think of a comparably equipped S class, and price it 33% less.
Come now, not everyone should be able to get access to the LTS. At a hypothetical $66K, it’s too accessible.
Mercedes-Benz’s boss said that they are closely watching Cadillac, I hate to break it to you, but you need to STFU.
