2016 Chevrolet Volt Rumored To Be Revealed At End Of 2014

AutoblogGreen has some spy shots of the 2016 Chevrolet Volt, and an anonymous source suggests that that more information on this “Volt 2.0” may be released at the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) Management Briefing Seminars in Traverse City, Mich. next week.

Supposedly there will be two announcements:

  1. General Motors likely will announce that the 2016 Volt will make its debut at one of the earlier 2015 auto shows – maybe Los Angeles at the end of 2014 or Detroit early in 2015.
  2. GM will be moving production of the Volt’s electric motors from Mexico to Michigan.

AutoblogGreen has nothing to confirm this, so all we can do for now is wait for the CAR seminars and see what the PR folks say. Of course, GM Authority will be here bringing you the news when it happens.

  1. Not even a hint if they will have another body style? This would make an awesome mid size SUV.

    1. …Hear! Hear! Google “MPV5” – GM showed in Shanghai three years ago!

      Basically, an Orlando ( Cruze-based, same as Volt ) – “Volted-up”.

Better yet – even easier to buy VIA MOTORS who build EREV “VIATRUX” with
40 miles electric range, then 30+MPG with it’s V-6 range extender. VIA has done
the heavy lifting and the battery packs fit right inside the Silverado frame rails!

Talk about busting the full-sized truck market wide open! And no “new” lighter
GM fullsized pickup nor Tahoe needed! – VIA uses brand-new versions of today’s trucks!
70+ MPG and the economy of scale of producing 1-2-300,000 units per year would
take care of the VIATRUX’s sky-high MSRP. Bob Lutz said that these economies of
scale make the expense of a Volt-type vehicle profitable fast since trucks sell
in huge numbers each year. Ford would literally crap it’s pants!

Timid GM — oh, follow, and don’t lead ….Just do the Camaro, Impala, Malibu thing
again, and again and again…. ( sigh ).

      1. Can you imagine? GM owning the small-midsize truck with Colorado and no Ranger
to rival it? —- And, the big one-two of hitting Ford where it counts with a VIATRUX
        EREV Silverado/Tahoe????!!!!

        WOW!!!!

Why is GM afraid to make history? Will we have to hear about the small-block V-8
        forever?

  2. While I agree that the 2016 Volt will be reveled in the next auto show circuit I have to question their sources as the current Volt electric motors are sourced from a supplier in Japan.

Also all the electric motors manufactured by GM are currently produced in their White Marsh, Maryland facility. So if the next generation Volt is using an in house manufactured motor (which makes sense) I would have put a high probability of it being produced at their Maryland facility.

  3. Looks like the new Malibu spy shot aka an Audi. I get copies of M-B but Audi???? It’s the most bland luxury brand.

  5. I’m planning on going to either the Los Angeles or Detroit auto show to see the 2016 for myself. If I like what they are showing in the 2016 model, we will be trading in our 2013 Malibu Eco in and ordering a generation 2 Volt. This would make the third Volt we buy. I wonder if there are any 3-timer Volt owners out there? I might be the first.

  6. They don’t launch GM CNG in Thailand. Too late,Toyota have CNG technology for their vehicle by now.
