Opel Greenlights Production Of Astra OPC Extreme

A Vauxhall/Opel representative confirmed to Autocar on the floor of the Geneva Motor Show that the Opel Astra OPC Extreme will be coming to the UK in right hand drive form.

Opel says the UK market is important for hot hatchbacks like the OPC Extreme and the success of Vauxhall’s performance brand, VXR, in the country means the Extreme will definitely be sold in there.

The Astra OPC Extreme is influenced by the brand’s Cup racecars and uses a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower, mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Inside, the rear seats have been replaced with a roll cage and the front seats have been replaced with lightweight racing seats. There are also several carbon fiber pieces including the roof, hood and wheels. It is unclear what, if any, changes will be made to the production ready car.

Autocar says between 50 and 300 Astra OPC Extreme’s will be built, with the production-ready version making its debut at next year’s Geneva Motor Show. There is no word on pricing.
