A report from Australian publication CarSales.com.au states that GM Holden will cut the base price of the refreshed VF Commodore range by $5,000.
Currently, the VE Commodore has a discounted end-of-life price of $34,990 (Z-Series sedan and SV6 Z-Series ute) and includes three years’ free service and a five-year warranty, while the SV6 Z-Series sedan has a special price of $35,990; the Z-Series Sportwagon can be bought for $37,990 — the same price as the Z-Series SS Ute. For the VF model, Holden plans to keep the discounted pricing for the VF Commodore, essentially returning to 2006 price levels, when the VE sedan was launched with a base price of $34,490.
According to unnamed sources mentioned by the Australian publication, Holden will cut the price of the VF Commodore by more than the $3,500 drop it announced for the 2014 Cruze compact car range.
In addition, it has been reported that the base Omega trim level on the VE will be replaced by the Evoke line on the VF. Currently, pricing for the VE Commodore starts at $39,990 for the Omega sedan and $35,490 for the Omega Ute; as such, their Evoke-trimmed VF counterparts will likely cost less than $35,000 and $30,000 for each model, respectively. Meanwhile, the 3.0 liter V6 Commodore VE Sportwagon Omega currently costs $41,990, and its Evoke replacement will come in at as little as $36,990. Holden has not announced any official pricing for the VF range as of this writing, but the information is expected to be released in May ahead of the VF’s June launch.
“The VF will represent exceptional value for money given the advanced technologies it will offer,” said GM Holden External Communications Director Craig Cheetham.
So far this year, General Motors’ Australian subsidiary has experienced declining sales of 30 and 40 percent for its mainstay Cruze and Commodore vehicles lines, respectively. This year’s slumping sales are magnified by 13.7 and 24.8 percent sales drops in 2012.
In February, Holden unveiled the “show car” versions of both the VF Commodore Calais V and SS V sedan, wagon, and ute, while Chevrolet showed off its production-intent SS performance sedan ahead of the Daytona 500. Holden has not revealed final production versions of any VF Commodore, and has not shown the base-model Evoke trim level (Evoke).

As Mike Deveroux said, If it wasnt for the Australian dollar’s high value, Holden wouldnt be experiencing the amount of declining sales as it is and there would be no possibility of Australian production closing down.
