Rendered: 2014 Chevy Tahoe

We’ve been seeing spy shots of the 2014 Chevy Tahoe left, right, and center — and now, we have this rendering of the upcoming 2014 Chevy Tahoe thanks to “automotive manipulator” Theophilus Chin.

As you can undoubtedly tell, it’s the 2014 Silverado, but in place of the bed is a full-bodied cabin. Of course, this is just one interpretation of the upcoming full-size SUV, but everything from the C-pillar back reminds us of the third-gen Dodge Durango, especially the slope of the D-pillar and along with the wheel arches surrounding the rear axle.

So, what do you think of the rendering, and how would you like the 2014 Tahoe (and Suburban) to look? Sound off in the comments, below.

  1. Ha, doesn’t look that bad. Hopefully, it looks better than that.

    1. I’m sorry but it looks much worse than the current generation Tahoe.

  2. Guarantee the front fascia will be different then the trucks to differentiate the SUV’s.

    1. It better be.

I know this is only a photoshop, but if GM did this without a front fascia change…..thye might as well just give money to Ford.

  3. I would think the back end would be more square like the current Tahoe. I agree I like the current gen design better, however if you shrunk the grill size a squared off the back it wouldn’t look too bad. It’s nice to see GM finally start putting HID’s on their vehicle, it’s about time. It drives me crazy seeing projectors with halogen bulb on their lower end vehicles though, that’s just cheaping out. #endsidetrackrant

  4. I don’t think gm will ever make it that close in resemblance to the silverado

  5. Why do all Chevy’s have took the same?
Silverados and Tahoes are looking the same.
All Chevy cars have the same two piece grill….

    Let’s get some original ideas

    1. @SonicBoy Do all Chevys look the same, or do they all have a common design language? I think it’s the latter… a development that I am, frankly, in favor of. That two-piece grille, for instance, is part of the design vocabulary…

Now, chances are that the 2014 Tahoe and Suburban will look rather different from the Silverado — at least as far as the front fascias are concerned. It pretty much all comes back to this being a rendering… nothing more, and nothing less.

    2. I like it, I currently have an 03 tahoe and I hate the 07-13 bodystyle. It is too rounded and flashy; this new design looks nice and rugged again. The chevy silverado, suburban and tahoe are all built on GM’s full size truck frame so it’s only natural that they look identicle. In the 80’s the c10’s and 20’s looked the same as the blazer and suburban, which is what I like.

  6. Chin’s work is excellent here , plus what he created in a rendering of an Opel Adam in a 5 door hatch design was amazing . The man is a genius , so Alex , how did you arrange for him to do the rendering on the Tahoe ??

    1. @USAJIM offerred him a larger monitor on which to create renderings such as this!

Just kiddin’. He just made it… 🙂

  7. Okay, so let us start with the obvious flaw … a Silverado avec chapeaux would be a Suburbado (tm pending) not a Silverhoe, or for the purposes of this rendering a Suburban not a Tahoe.

This rendering has been on google webz for some time now, and over on tahoyukonforum it’s provided us for a many a giggle, thankfully it’s just about the laziest attempt at a rendering ever undertaken. For as opposed to the recent carscoop 2014 Escalade rendering which is based on interpretation of existing spy shots, this is just a Silvy with a hat on, and not even a nice hat.

Over the last three years I have owned a 09 Tahoe hybrid, a 10 Yukon Denali, an 11 Escalade Premium, and as of a couple of days ago an 11 escalade Premium. God forbid GM’s sense of humor is as twisted as the creator of that image, I shall have to keep this one till I’m 80. And I don’t want to.

    So this just ain’t happening.

  8. This is a very good rendering. However, I hope that this isn’t what the Tahoe will look like. It needs to be different from the silverado. Otherwise it’s another avalanche Tahoe scenario. The Tahoe needs it own SUV design and identity to compete with the competition. This rendering reminds me of a truck with a cap on the bed.

  10. Oh by the way Mr Luft … you forgot to include another one of Mr Chin’s classics: http://www.theophiluschin.com/?p=4715

Mr Chin is as talented rendering vehicles as he is at pegging stereotypes. His caption “A new generation of Escalade for the rappers and homies” is just awesomely accurate. I know that for my part, I can’t stop either rapping or homieing.

    1. I Saw that Escalade…pretty lame. i had to really look to see exactly what was supposed to be so different about his rendering and the current one. Looked around on his site a few times as well; NOT impressed with his skills.

  12. Anyone seen a rendering of the next Yukon Denali? I hope it takes influence from the new Acadia

  13. I don’t like the current Silverado, but I do like the Tahoe/Suburban. This is because of the general design of the front end and the fenders. I am thinking that GM will continue with the differentiation between them and keep the similarity between the SUVs and the Avalanche.

    1. Thinking out loud here guys: what’s the reason for keeping the Silverado and Tahoe/Burban different? For the sake of differentiation? Tradition? Do it “just for the hell of it”? I understand that this has been the case in the past, but with such an attractive front end as seen above (obviously, opinion — mine), what’s the point?

  14. Put the Chevy front end against the Ram and Ford F150 in a clinic and show me the results. I will back off completely if the average person likes the GM models the best.

I expect GM to wow me but have been underwhelmed with these trucks. I think the GM put too much money and focus on the small cars and Cadillac CTS and really dropped the ball on the big trucks.

I hope I’m wrong. But when I read that Ram will introduce a V6 diesel, a lot of consumers now think that we have past our glory days.

    1. Elroy — GM did put the new trucks in many a study… and it DID come out on top. This goes for exterior and interior design.

Here’s some insight into the interior design (check out the second to last paragraph, in particular):
      http://gmauthority.com/blog/2012/12/expect-these-improvements-to-the-interiors-of-the-all-new-chevy-silverado-gmc-sierra/

These guys aren’t newbs, they know what they’re doing… and it’s not like they’re trying to mold a product designed for another country/region (ahem, European Opel Mokka) for America (ahem, Buick Encore). These trucks are green field projects, designed and engineered from the ground up.

      1. Alex I hope GM is right, because when I consider owning a truck, the Ram is the only one that appeals to me. I’d even go so far to say that the Ram is the only “styled” truck on the road right now. The GM and Ford offerings are more like form following function, than “styled”. And while that would make me less likely to care if it got banged up while working, it also does not endear me to either Brand’s looks.

  15. Ha I bet this is exactly how the new Tahoe will look like. Man GM went real lazy designing their new trucks. Although I do like the 2014 GMC Sierra but the Chevy’s look boring with the same design language as the current generation.

  16. I am sure the “cargo” are is going to be as useless as the Escalade. People do use the back for real cargo… HELLOOOOO. If they just had people they could buy a sedan. This is why people buy an SUV

  17. I am not sure how you improve on an almost perfect large SUV. I have never owned a new car longer than two years except for my 2003 Denali and my 2005 Corvette, both which I still have. Aside from regular maintenance (oil, tires, battery) I have never had a problem. It is far and away the most dependable and utilitarian vehicle I have ever owned (and I’ve owned over sixty). I guess that just supports the reliability findings for the Yukon in your prior story. My hope is that it is not changed too drastically.

  19. Ugly. I think that current Tahoe model has maintain a fresh appeareance even through the years. This is simple, nice, easy to wash. It is going back to the GMT800 concept: All the same front end, including Suburban and Yukon XL. Hopefully this is not its front end. SonicBoy, having a same theme is something that all BMW’s, MB and Audis have been doing for years, and they keep selling.

  23. I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY do not like the design language of those wheel arches. We are on our 7th Tahoe and I believe that the present one is damn near perfect. Sadly, I guess we can only go down from here. GM please prove me wrong.

  24. Don’t mind overall look, little change, however, looks like same old painted plastic bumpers which are worthless on 4W/Z71. They do not hold up and paint is easily scratched off by the smallest of bushes when off road. Must have metal bumpers.
