General Motors has issued a recall for exactly 980 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana 2013-model-year vans due to an issue with the ignition system that could lead to a roll away accident, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The affected Express vans were built between November 1 and December 21, 2012, while the Savana vans were built between November 14 and 20.
The major malfunction allows the removal of the key from the ignition while the vehicle is running or the transmission is not in Park. As a result, the defect could lead to a roll away scenario, and subsequent damage and/or injury.
GM will begin notifying owners this Wednesday, and instructing them to take their vehicle to a dealership. Dealers will replace the ignition lock cylinder and the two associated keys, free of charge.
