General Motors is heading towards the green side with its new addition to the Baltimore Operations complex. This past week GM broke ground on the operation which will bring a new plant to build electric motors for future products and will be powered by a 1.23 megawatt rooftop solar array. Currently, the Baltimore Operations complex builds two-mode hybrid and Heavy Duty transmissions.
“We believe the future of sustainable transportation is electrically driven vehicles and this facility will help us maintain a leadership position within this category,” said Mike Robinson, GM vice president, Energy, Environment and Safety Policy.
The price tag for the project bills at $269.5 million, and solar array will save around $330,000 in energy costs during its lifetime.
