2017 Chevrolet Traverse Platform

The 2017 Chevrolet Traverse rides on General Motors’ Lambda platform.

Lambda was GM’s second crossover architecture after Theta. For the most part, the architecture is derived from GM’s Epsilon platform, which underpins the Chevrolet Malibu and Impala, Buick Regal and LaCrosse, as well as other models. The steel structure of the Lambda platform is shared with the following vehicles:

  • GMC Acadia
  • Buick Enclave
  • Saturn Outlook (discontinued in 2010)

Lambda Features

The Lambda platform has several distinguishing characteristics, including:

  • Welded unibody frame
  • Front-engined, transversely-mounted engine layout
  • Ability to cradle engines with six cylinders
  • Four wheel independent suspension system
  • Front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive capability
  • Three-row seating
  • Ample trunk/cargo space with the third-row seats up

Replacement

The Lambda platform has been replaced by the C1 vehicle architecture, with its long-wheelbase variant set to underpin the all-new, second-generation 2018 Chevy Traverse.
